🇸🇪 Oscar Zia – “offerkofta”
🇫🇮 BESS – “Papillon (Vain elämää)”
BESS competed in the 2022 edition of Finland’s UMK national final with her electro-pop record “Ram pam pam”, becoming a fan favourite in the process. She would place 3rd in the national final, behind Cyan Kicks and eventual Eurovision representatives The Rasmus (who also feature on this week’s round-up). Despite not winning the national final, “Ram pam pam” became a massive hit in Finland. It was the most streamed Finnish song of 2022, and broke records in the country by spending 19 weeks at number one on the Finnish Radio Airplay Chart. She returned to the UMK stage the following year and appeared as one of the interval acts alongside The Rasmus. For the 2023 Contest in Liverpool, BESS acted as the jury spokesperson, giving the 12 Finnish points to Loreen’s “Tattoo”. In 2025, BESS once again appeared as an interval act in the UMK national final, alongside Linda Lampenius, Keira and other Finnish icons.
The latest release to come from the 17th season of the popular Vain elämää TV show sees BESS reimagine Stradivarius’ song “Papillon”. The lyrics are in French, and the beat has an almost reggae DnB infused feel to it (if that possibly makes any sense). This is BESS like I’ve never heard her before in all honesty. And it’s wonderful.
Vain elämää (meaning “It’s only life” in Finnish) is a popular Finnish reality music television series, where a group of well-known Finnish musicians live and record music together. Each show features the music of a specific member of the group, with the original artist listening and reacting to the new interpretations of their song. The final episode usually features duets or group performances. The show is an adaptation of the Dutch format De beste zangers van Nederland. The title of the show comes from the classic 1973 song “Vain elämää” by legendary Finnish singer Irwin Goodman. The show premiered in 2012, and has become one of Finland’s most successful and longest-running reality television programs, spanning numerous seasons and featuring dozens of Finland’s top recording artists. This week, the musical theme came from the hits of Finnish musician Timo Kotipelto, from the band Stradivarius, who is also taking part in this year’s show.
🇺🇦 SKYLERR – “Червонии мак”
Young Ukrainian singer SKYLERR competed in the 2024 edition of the country’s national selection with the song “Time Is Running Out”. The singer attempted to withdraw from the competition after the vote had opened, citing technical crashes with the voting app and a messy PR race, but Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne did not allow an artist to withdraw once the vote had opened. The song would eventually finish in 7th in the selection, and SKYLERR has yet to make a reappearance in Vidbir. This week, she joins kavabanga and Depo kolibri on new single “Червонии мак”.
🇷🇸 Zorja – “TZUFTI BOSILKO”
Zorja has twice entered the Serbian national final for Eurovision, coming third in both 2022 and 2024. More recently, she acted as one of the song writers for Croatia in 2026, co-composing the track “Andromeda” performed by LELEK at the Contest in Vienna. Latest single from Zorja comes in the form of “TZUFTI BOSILKO”, a track which, knowing the LELEK connection, makes it hard to not think of the Croatian girlband as a comparison. But this is exciting.
🇮🇹 Geolier – “WINNER”
Geolier made his debut at the Sanremo Music Festival in 2024 with the track “I p’ me, tu p’ te”, which was the the first-ever song written entirely in the Neapolitan language to compete in Sanremo’s main tier. Geolier was a huge fan favourite in the 2024 festival, winning the public vote by a large margin, but missing out on the win to Angelina Mango, due in part to the lower votes than expected from the juries. Following on from last month’s collaboration with fellow Sanremo alum Achille Lauro, this week, Geolier has released new single “WINNER”. The song comes ahead of Geolier’s run of six sold out shows at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples next year, and this is going to sound huge at those stadium dates.
🇦🇺 Jaguar Jonze – “Right Side Up”
Jaguar Jonze first appeared on most eurofan radars in the Australia Decides national final back in 2020, with the song “Rabbit Hole”, where she placed 6th. She returned to the Australian national final in 2022 with the song “Little Fires”, placing 3rd overall and winning the jury vote of the selection in the process. Ahead of her next album “BEASTMASTER”, due to be released early 2027, Jaguar Jonze has been dropping a string of singles from the record. This week is the turn of “Right Side Up”. This is a touch more mainstream indie-electronica compared to some of the other singles the Aussie musician has recently released, but it’s every bit as exciting! I cannot wait for this next album.
🇪🇸 MELER – “Siempre Me Buscas”
Spanish 3-piece boyband MELER competed in the first semi-final of Spain’s Benidorm Fest in 2023 with their folk-pop song “No nos moverán”. This week, the trio have released “Siempre Me Buscas”, an indie-rock / folk-pop mashup, with a big sound. This feels like the kind of song I need to singalong to live.
🇨🇿 Pam Rabbit – “f* delusional”
Pam Rabbit is a three time Czech national final artist, placing 2nd on her most recent attempt with the song “Ghosting” in the 2023 edition of ESCZ. This week, the musician teams up with Call Dominika on the release of new single “f* delusional”. This is girl-boss energy, with a great instrumental track behind it.
🇫🇮 Benjamin – “I’m on fire (Vain elmämää)”
Benjamin became somewhat of a fan favourite in the 2023 edition of Finlands UMK national final. The electro-gay-pop artist entered the show with his high energy, electro-dance track “Hoida Mut”, and despite only finishing 7th in the selection, the song had huge commercial success in Finland. The musician returned to the UMK national final the following year to host the show, alongside Pilvi Hämäläinen and Viivi Pumpanen. During the show, he took to the stage as an interval performer alongside fellow 2023 UMK artist KUUMAA, performing a mashup of their previous year’s entries. Benjamin is currently taking part in Finland’s Vain elämää TV show, and this week takes on the music of Stradivarius. Benjamin has put his own spin on Timo Kotipelto’s “Im on Fire” for the show, mixing the high-camp, dance-pop energy he’s known for, with the heavy rock sound of Kotipelto’s band Stradivarius.

🇭🇺 Király Viktor – “Wild Cherry”
American-Hungarian Király Viktor has this week released new single “Wild Cherry”. The 3 time A Dal entrant and Voice America alumni has found success both in Europe and America, and has had a handful of recent singles, and returned with full length album “MY NAME IS VIKTOR” back in July. “Wild Cherry” is a smooth, funky, soul-jazz record in the English language. If you can listen to this without tapping your foot or vibing, you’re dead inside. This is SOUL!
🇺🇦 YAKTAK – “якби не було тебе”
Ukrainian hip-hop / pop singer-songwriter YAKTAK is back with another new single, “якби не було тебе”. The young performer made a name for himself in the extended Eurovision universe when he entered Vidbir 2024 with the track “Lalala”. YAKTAK would ultimately finish in 4th place in the national final, behind only Mélovin (Eurovision 2018), Ziferblat (Eurovision 2025) and alyona alyona & Jerry Heil (Eurovision 2024). Latest single “якби не було тебе” is on the more emotional, singer-songwriter side of YAKTAK’s repertoire, but he sounds absolutely stunning on this track.
🇨🇭 Vincent Gross – “3 x 100”
Switzerlands Die Entscheidungsshow 2016 national final saw Vincent Gross place 3rd with his song “Half A Smile”. This week, Vincent has released new single “3 x 100” (which equals 300 by the way Vincent) with the ARD Inas Nacht house band De Tampentrekker. Right, honestly, this isn’t for me, but Vincent has a great voice and knows how to SING schlager.
🇦🇺 Ella Hooper – “Overnight Success”
Country-pop singer Ella Hooper competed in 2019’s Australia Decides national final for Eurovision, placing 10th with “Data Dust”. The singer-songwriter from down under has been releasing an array of singles in recent months, and also found time to appear on the new Bachelor Girl project, alongside other Aussie Eurovision icons. This week sees the release of her full length album, “Overnight Success”. The record is full of country-pop, folky and singer-songwriter anthems. This is a great album, start to finish.
🇪🇪 kewin – “uni”
kewin took part in the 2023 edition of Estonia’s Eesti Laul national final with his song “Valik”. Latest single “uni” is a dark, electro-hip-hop sound, with a heavy beat. this is nighttime drive music, absolutely. Emotional, yet not sad. Dark, yet not depressing. Moody, yet still uptempo. This is exciting.
Junior Eurovision artists
🇬🇧 Freya Skye – “bad taste (performance version)”
We have already covered Freya Skye’s latest single “bad taste” (and the article is linked below), but this week the UK Junior Eurovision star has released the performance version of the song. Freya is embarking on a world tour, and it absolutely makes sense to release the on-tour version of the track. It’s a great, modern pop track. And if I can squeeze some sort of UK love onto this list, then I’m going to take those opportunities while I can! Freya is probably the biggest star to come from the British Eurovision scene since Sam Ryder, so excuse me while I celebrate that!
Honourable mentions / tenuous links
🇮🇹 Laura Pausini – “MIENTES”
Italian Eurovision host Laura Pausini will be well remembered by Eurovision fans as the songstress who co-hosted the 2022 edition of the Contest in Turin. The singer is a star in Italy, and across Europe, and has the back catalogue to prove it. Latest single “MIENTES” is an emotional, ballad at its core. With a huge, belting chorus, and an impactful instrumental underneath Laura’s amazing vocals. Wow.
🇺🇸 Quavo & Justin Timberlake – “House Music”
Two big American names in music, who have both performed as interval acts in the Song Contest in different years. Quavo made an appearance on the Eurovision Grand Final stage alongside Madonna for the 2019 Contest, in Tel Aviv. Before that, however, Justin Timberlake had appeared as an interval act during the 2016 Grand Final in Sweden. This week, Justin features on the track “House Music”, from the new Quavo album “QRÖMELIFE”. I’m sure someone will enjoy this.
🇦🇿 EMIN – “Кружева”
Emin Agalarov, stage name EMIN, performed as an interval act during the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. He gave a mesmerising performance of his track “Never Enough” during the interval. EMIN is a huge name across Europe, and has had a career spanning more than 2 decades so far. This week, Roza Zərgərli joins him for new single “Кружева”.
