As time progresses, more and more countries reveal if whether or not they will be participating in the 2023 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Another country that would not be present for this year’s competition is Romania.
No reason given for Romania’s non-participation
The country’s non-participation was confirmed to Eurofestivales, with TVR not revealing the reason as to why they will not be participating in this year’s competition. Romania’s non-participation will see them miss the competition for the 14th year in a row. Romania has not participated since 2009 when the contest took place in Kyiv.
About Junior Eurovision 2023
Junior Eurovision 2023 landed in ‘Nice’ after France won the competition for a second time in Yerevan, where its 2022 representative Lissandro won the competition with “Oh Maman”. This year’s competition will take place on the 26th of November at 16:00CET in Nice, at the Palais Nikaïa in Nice, which can accomodate up to 9,000 spectators.

Romania’s Junior Eurovision Journey
As one of the countries to be in the inaugural competition, Romania debuted in the competition in 2003, with Bubu and the song “Tobele sunt viața mea”, which placed 10th. Since their debut, Romania has participated seven times, and even hosted the competition in Bucharest back in 2006. Their latest Junior Eurovision attempt was in 2009 where Ioana Bianca Anuța participated with “Ai puterea în mâna ta”, which placed 13th.
