HRT have revealed that there will be voting changes for the Semi-Finals of Dora, which take place on the 22nd and 23rd February 2024.
Changes to the voting
In a change to the previous voting rules, in the two semi-final nights televoting will determine the winner of the semi-final rounds. Each semi-final will see 12 acts compete, and 8 acts will qualify from each show, with the splits and running order revealed last week.
The final is set to take place on the 25th of February. In the final, the voting will be a 50/50 split between the televote and the juries. In the event of a tie, the winning song will be the one that received the most televotes.
The jury will be made up of 4 Croatian juries (from the 4 HRT centres in Zagreb, Split, Rijeka and Osijek) but also 4 international juries (Iceland, Ukraine, Italy and Germany). Each jury panel will be made up of three representatives from across the music and entertainment industries.
What we know about Dora 2024
Dora 2024 will have two semi-finals and a final. From an initial set of 24 songs, 16 songs will make it to the final, with 8 coming from each semi-final. Over 200 songs were received for consideration into the final. A jury chose the final 24 songs, with 4 held as reserve in case of artist withdrawals. One artist made it to the entrants from the reserve list (Baby Lasagne) after Zsa Zsa withdrew for unknown reasons.
The contest will take place in the HRT studios in Zagreb. It will be hosted by Duško Čurlić, Maja Ciglenečki and Anja Cerar. It will air on HRT1 and on streaming on HRT and YouTube.
Croatia’s Eurovision Journey
Croatia has been a part of the Eurovision family since 1961, as part of Yugoslavia. Ten Croatian artists went on to represent Yugoslavia in the Contest – the most famous of which being Riva, who gave Yugoslavia its only win in 1989. The 1990 Contest was held in Zagreb as a tribute to their Croatian heritage. Croatia debuted in the Contest as an independent nation in 1993 with the band Put and their song “Don’t Ever Cry”. Since then, Croatia has gone on to score as high as 4th place in 1996 and 1999.
For 2023, Croatia chose the well-known band Let 3 to represent the nation in Liverpool with their song “”Mama ŠČ!””. Performing in the first semi-final, Croatia qualified for the Grand Final for the first time since 2017. In the Grand Final, the band finished in 13th place, with a total of 123 points – 11 of which coming from juries, whilst another 112 came from the televote.
