🇸🇪 Klaudy: “You can expect a very emotional and ‘close’ performance”

Sweden is continuing their national selection Melodifestivalen on Saturday. As the artists prepare for the third semi-final to take place on Saturday, February 17th, Tim speaks to Klaudy. He is vying to represent Sweden in Eurovision with his entry “För Dig ”

Hi Klaudy, I would just like to start things off by asking you what is the one unique thing about yourself that not many people know about?

Wow.. ehum… I’m very good at Sudoku!! I play it all the time. My record is 57 sec. yay.

We’ll start by getting to know you a bit more. Are you able to please give us a short introduction of yourself.

My real name is William Schenberg and I’m 24 years old. I live in Stockholm but I’m originally from Gothenburg

How does it feel to be in the running to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2024?

I’m just happy to be a part of this professional production. It’s Sweden’s biggest TV show and to get the opportunity to spread my music to so many people is a win for me.

The first question I will ask about Melodifestivalen is your entry “För Dig”. What was your personal experience like recording the song.

The day we recorded the track in the studio, our initial plan was just to write a new song. But after a while, we felt, why not try to pitch it/ send it in? And we did, and the rest is history 🙂

We are only a few days away from your participation, how are the preparations going for your performance?

It’s going very well. I wish I could tell you more but want to keep it a secret till Saturday! 😉

Is there anything you can tell us about what we can expect from your performance?

You can expect a very emotional and ”close” performance 🙂

When we see you perform on stage, what message would you like to send to the viewers who will be watching your performance?

LOVE

Talking about Eurovision, do you have a favourite Eurovision entry?

I love Lordi’s “Hard Rock Hallelujah” – I was a kid, and the music video was a bit creepy.

I wanted to ask you, Sweden is hosting this year’s competition. What it mean to you if Sweden selects you as their representative for Malmö.

I don’t know how to answer that question really…. I haven’t even been thinking that could happen. Such a surrealistic thought…

Prior to taking part in Mello, you’ve also participated in ‘Songland’, what was your experience like taking part in the competition, and how has taking part in the show helped you as a songwriter?

That experience was amazing! My first TV production and to win and work with Cherrie was awesome! It has of course helped me in many situations as a songwriter.

Looking ahead, what can we expect from Klaudy after Mello? – I see that you have a new EP coming up ahead of Mello.

Yes I actually release it on friday!! Very exciting 🙂 will also have more shows and gigs!

Can’t wait to play my music live

Finally, my last question for you is, looking through the preparations you’ve had, what is the one thing you have learnt from taking part in Melodifestivalen, that you’ll take with you, regardless of the result?

To participate in Sweden’s biggest TV production – that is a win and I think I will learn soooo much from it. Also to get to know all the nice people.

Thank you for this opportunity, Is there anything you would like to say to the readers over at That Eurovision Site?

Big Thanks for reading my interview and hope you like my song!! And thank you ‘That Eurovision Site’ for having me:)

Who is Klaudy?

Klaudy (William Schenberg), is one of the debutants at Melodifestivalen 2024. He currently lives in Stockholm but is from Gothenburg, where he grew up with several music teachers in his family. Before participating in Mello, he has released numerous singles (with an EP due to be released on the 16th of February), as well as having participated in the Swedish version of ‘Songland’ where he ended up working with Cherrie on “Svarta Moln“. He will be debuting at Melodifestivalen 2024 with “För Dig”, which he co-wrote alongside Åke Olofsson.

Sweden’s Eurovision Journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).

In 2023, Loreen returned to represent Sweden, who won the 2012 edition of the competition. She competed with the song “Tattoo”, which managed to qualify for the Grand Final, and placed 1st with 583 points. Loreen won the jury vote, accruing 340 points from the jury, earning an additional 243 points from the televote. This now means Sweden matches Ireland for the record of most wins in Eurovision history.
