What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from the Eesti Laul 2024 final?

Rory (“(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi”): I’ve watched with despair over the years that Eesti Laul has gradually shifted away from the more experimental entries in favour of something more traditional and poppy. So it should come as no surprise that when this track came out, I was immediately in love. It’s a perfect blend of humour and seriousness, tradition and modernity. I have some small concerns on the live vocals based from the semi-final performance, but this has the greatest potential to impress and stand out on a Eurovision stage. And whilst Estonia has been consistently qualifying in recent years, this is the perfect opportunity to break into the top 5 that they have been looking for!

Daniel (“Never Growing Up”): Honestly not sure why I like it. Didn’t like his last entry, don’t usually like this type of song, but I like it. A really sweet and fun pop song with a chorus that has chiseled its way into my mind, and I know his vocals can match it on Saturday night.

Euan (“Korra Veel”): When I think Eesti Laul this is the sort of vibe I imagine. Peter’s entry this year is a prime example of Baltic electronic excellence. His impactful vocals really helps the catchy chorus get stuck in my head after one listen. The backing track manages to simultaneously be a great throwback to familiar 80s/90s while still staying fresh. While I don’t think this entry would be in with a chance of winning, I do think that this is one of Estonia’s best chances at a solid top ten finish

Estonia’s Eurovision Journey

Estonia has appeared at almost every Eurovision since their debut in 1994. They have won the contest once with Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL in 2001, singing Everybody. Other notable Estonian entrants include 3rd placer Sahlene with Runaway in 2002 and Ines with Once In A Lifetime in 2000, who placed 4th. More recently, their highest-placing entries have been Urban Symphony with Rändajad in 2009 and Ott Lepland with Kuula in 2012, both of which finished in 6th place.

In 2023, Estonia elected to send Alika through Eesti Laul to the Contest with “Bridges”. She successfully qualified for the final and finshed in 8th place with 168 points. Alika finished with 146 points from the juries, and an additional 22 points from the televote.
