Ahead of the final of Etapa Națională 2024 taking place, Jazzi spoke with Y-Limit about his experience in this year’s competition. During the national final Y-Limit will be singing the song “Revolution”

Hi, I would just like to start things off by asking you to introduce yourself?

Y-Limit stands for: Why Limit? Be. Create. Therefore I do music in different
genres – as I’m first of all, a songwriter. And limiting your creative thoughts is not an option.

Before we continue, let’s start with a quick icebreaker by just asking if there is one thing about yourself that not many people know about?

I can talk like Scrooge Mcduck

For international Eurovision fans, this will be the first time they will get to know you, could you please tell us a bit more about yourself?

Born in Moldova. Moved to the USA at 16 and now living in NYC. Neurology technician during the day, husband and father that still keeps on working on his music

Can I start off by asking, what made you want to participate in the Moldovan Eurovision selection?

I want to bring Eurovision to Moldova. Have a big Party.

You will be participating with the song “Revolution”, what is the song about and what would you like the audience to feel when listening to it?

Revolution is a message from a person of the future – half cyber, half human. It’s a warning to the people of today – that we should be more conscious and considerate of each other. And if we’re not – better, quicker, and smarter humans will replace us.

When I am sending this, we are only a few days away from the national final. How are the preparations going for that?

Exciting. We’re done with all the graphics and rehearsals. And I’m looking forward to the final. It will be Epic.

What would it mean for you to win Etapa Naționl and represent your country at Eurovision?

It would mean the world. And I would absolutely love it. It would be a great responsibility and challenge, but I’m up for it. And I will do my absolute best to bring the big celebration to Moldova

Moving onto Eurovision, what are your earliest memories of the contest, Do you have any favourite songs? Either from Moldova or from any other country

“Boonika Bate Toba” by Zdob si Zdub was the first song from Moldova at Eurovision and still one of my favourites. That was also the year I was introduced to the contest. After that – “Molitva” by Serbia, “Euphoria” by Loreen, and many, many more that have captured my music ear and are still in my playlist.

To get to the live national final on Saturday, you had to first compete in the auditions back in January, can you tell us more about the audition process?

I feel like the auditions are a bit tougher because you have very little time to do a soundcheck and then showcase your song. And then hope it was enough for the jury to send you to the final. This is my 3d time trying out, and hopefully a lucky one.

What is one thing that you have learnt from taking part in the national final, that you will take with you going forward?

Great opportunity to showcase your music, but also meeting many wonderful people along the way. At the end of day – human interaction, and the memories we make together is one of the best experiences of life.

Thank you for this opportunity, and good luck in Etapa Națională 2024

Moldova’s Eurovision Journey

Moldova is relatively new to the Eurovision Song Contest, joining in 2005. Their debut entry, Zdob și Zdub, finished in 6th place, which had remained their highest scoring entry up until 2017. This was thanks to the Sunstroke Project performing ‘Hey Mamma’, finishing in 3rd place. At the close of voting, Moldova received 374 points.

In 2023, Pasha came back to the Eurovision stage to represent Moldova at the Contest in Liverpool. Performing his song “Soarele și luna”, Moldova qualified for the final, finishing in 5th place. Following the jury and televote points in the final, Moldova received 96 points, finishing in 18th place. Of the 96 points, 20 were given by the jury, while the remaining 76 is given by the televote.
