Who are our favourites from the Melodifestivalen final
We ranked the songs taking part in the final of Melodifestivalen, using a 1-12 ranking. 1 being our favourite, 12 being our least favourite song. We then calculated the average of all our rankings. Right below, you can see our top 3 for this selection as well as their average scores.
3rd. Dotter – “It’s Not Easy To Write You a Love Song (5.00)
2nd MEDINA – “Que Sera” (3.20)
1st Maria Sur – “When I’m Gone” (2.20):
What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from the Final of Melodifestivalen 2024?
Daniel (“Que Sera”): If you need a party atmosphere on stage, call Medina, and they will deliver. The pair’s stage presence is second to none in the competition, and the song reminds me in all the best ways possible of a FIFA World Cup song. Whilst I think the song itself is slightly weaker than their last eentry, it still remains my firm Melfest favourite. Whilst it doesn’t look likely, I would absolutely love this to be the host entry in May.
Jazzi (“It’s Not Easy To Write You a Love Song): Me going for a sad girl song? Stranger things have happened! I absolutely adore Dotter’s voice first and foremost I feel anything she sent I would have ranked pretty highly. This is the most raw and emotional song we have seen Dotter send to Melodifestivalen and honestly it works the builds up the choruses I absolutely adore. I think she would do her home country proud if she was to represent Sweden this year.
Kittens (“When I’m Gone”): Maria coming back and saying banger rights was not on my 2024 bingo card but what a banger it is. The presentation is simple, but effective, and centers her as an artist so well. Great to see her showing off her potential, and even if it doesn’t make it to Eurovision this is going to be a Euroclub floorfiller for years to come.
Sweden’s Eurovision Journey
In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).
In 2023, Loreen returned to represent Sweden, who won the 2012 edition of the competition. She competed with the song “Tattoo”, which managed to qualify for the Grand Final, and placed 1st with 583 points. Loreen won the jury vote, accruing 340 points from the jury, earning an additional 243 points from the televote. This now means Sweden matches Ireland for the record of most wins in Eurovision history.
