Olly Alexander, who is representing the UK at Eurovision 2024

With days to go until he performs at Eurovision 2024, Olly Alexander from the UK has laid out his domestic promotional campaign for the Contest.

Checking off heavy hitters

As rehearsal get underway at the Malmö Arena next week, Olly will make a special appearance on one of the biggest TV shows in the country – soap opera EastEnders. The episode is set to air on May 1st, and see Alexander make a guest appearance on Albert Square, where he will receive “a hero’s welcome in the Old Vic pub while rehearsing his Eurovision performance nearby”.

Speaking about the news, Olly Alexander himself said he was excited to be a part of the soap, which regularly brings in around 4 million viewers each episode. He explained more in a statement:

I’m thrilled to be making my first appearance on EastEnders and in the most iconic pub in the UK. I’m so happy I got to meet some true screen legends and spend time on set with the brilliant cast and crew… I wanted to surprise my mum as it’s her favourite show but I guess the cat is out of the bag now, she’s gonna love it!

As well as this, Olly’s journey to Eurovision is set to be shown in a special documentary to air on the BBC. The programme will follow Olly from the moment he publicly revealed his participation on Strictly Come Dancing. It will also give viewers an insight into his preparations for the Contest, including behind-the-scenes rehearsals and performing across the multiple pre-parties over the past few weeks.

Olly Alexander and his road to Eurovision so far

Olly Alexander was internally selected by British broadcaster the BBC late last year. Following on from this, Olly later went on to release his Eurovision 2024 song “Dizzy”. It was later confirmed that Olly will perform fifth during the first Eurovision 2024 semi-final in Malmö on May 7th.

Olly is performing as an interval act during the show and not as a competing artist. Olly’s first and only competitive performance will be in the Eurovision Grand Final on May 11th.
