Eurovision in Malmö is now less than two weeks away. In the lead-up to the start of rehearsals, we will get to know a bit more about this year’s artists, their discography, and their Eurovision 2024 journey so far. Next up, we will preview Italy’s 2024 representative, Angelina Mango.

Angelina Mango’s Eurovision Journey So Far…

Angelina Mango was confirmed as one of the 27 ‘big artists’ in Sanremo 2024 back in December of last year, with the title of her song, La Noia, being revealed two days later. She would go onto win the Festival, becoming the first female vocalist to win the contest since 2014. This won her first right of refusal to represent Italy at Eurovision, and she chose to accept the invite.

In a change from previous Italian artists, Angelina has been active in pre-party season, attending Pre-Party ES in Madrid, Barcelona Eurovision Party, London Eurovision Party, and Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam.

Born into a musical family as the daughter of singers Matia Bazar and Giuseppe Mango, Angelina has been performing since her early youth both as a singer and dancer. At the age of 10, she was a backing vocalist on her father’s cover of Starlight on his final album La Terra degli aquiloni.

Her dad passed away in 2014, and she would go on to perform an orchestral rearrangement of his song “La Rondine” on Sanremo Covers Night, receiving a standing ovation.

Her Eurovision Song “La Noia” was written by Angelina alongside Madame and Dardust, who also produced the track. Te song will feature on her debut album “Poké melodrama” which will be released on 31 May.

Italy’s Eurovision Journey

Italy has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since the beginning and has always been considered a powerhouse. The country has won the contest on three occasions in 1964, 1990 and 2021. Italy withdrew after 1997, returning in 2011 with Raphael Gualazzi who sang ‘Madness Of Love’. Raphael placed second in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest after scoring 189 points.

Italy’s most recent entry in 2023 was “Due Vite” by Marco Mengoni. At the close of voting, Italy scored 350 points in the Eurovision 2023 Grand Final, placing 4th. Of these, 176 points came from the juries, whilst the remaining 174 points came from the televote.
