Who are Gåte?

Gåte has been active as a band since 1999. They released their first EP, simply titled Gåte EP, in 2000, which gained significant popularity. Their music typically consists of rearranged versions of traditional Norwegian folk tunes with added metal and electronica. While the members have changed over the years, their current formation consists of Gunnhilk Sundli (vocals), Magnus Børmark (guitar), Jon Even Schärer (drummer), Mats Paulsen (bass) and John Stenersen (nyckelharpa).

The group had a four year hiatus between 2005 and 2009, then again between 2010 and 2017. Their first album, “Jygri”, reached number 1 in the Norwegian charts when it was released in 2002. Since their return, they have released 2 albums, “Svevn” (Sleep), which reached #11 on the Norwegian charts at its peak, and “Nord” (North).

At Eurovision, Gåte will perform “Ulveham”, a modern interpretation of the Norwegian medieval ballad “Møya i ulveham” (The Maid in Wolf Pelt). The song was written by Gunnhild Sundli, Magnus Børmark, Jon Even Schärer, Martin Jensen Lillebuen, Ronny Graff Janssen and Sveinung Ekloo Sundli. It was produced by Sveinung Sundli, Magnus Børmark, Tobias Østerdal and Marit Jensen Lillebuen.

Norway’s Eurovision History

Since their debut, they have participated 61 times, and made the Grand Final 58 of these. In addition, Norway has won the competition three times – in 1985, 1995, and 2009.

Norway’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Alessandra with the song “Queen of Kings”. After qualifying for the final, Norway placed 5th in the Grand Final, receiving 268 points, 52 of which from the jury and 216 from televoters.
