Megara represented San Marino at Eurovision 2024 with "11:11".

Today the rehearsals for Eurovision 2024 continue in Malmö. Countries rehearsing on Day 4 include Latvia, San Marino, Georgia, Belgium, Estonia, Norway and The Netherlands. The second to rehearse today is San Marino’s MEGARA.

MEGARA’s first rehearsal

The next to take to the Eurovision 2024 stage at Malmö Arena in Malmö was San Marino’s MEGARA. MEGARA will be competing in this year’s competition with their entry “11:11” following on from winning Una Voce per San Marino

Following MEGARA’s first rehearsal a clip of what went on was posted on the official TikTok account of the Eurovision Song Contest. The clip showed them before and after they took to the Eurovision stage for the first time, as well as giving us some insight into how well their first rehearsal went.

What did we learn about MEGARA’s staging?

MEGARA go on stage in their eye-catching as always pink and black attire. As the official Eurovision liveblog notes, the outfits are more striped compared to their Una Voce Per San Marino looks. The colour theme continues in the animations on the LED wall behind the band. Dragons, trees, and more create an almost spooky fairytale ambience. There is a dance routine, including flamenco, throughout the performance. Singer Kenzy ends up taking off her coat to reveal pink armour with spikes on the spine, while the two dancers joining MEGARA reveal into skeleton bodysuits. And, of course, there is a lot of pyro. Smoke and flame balls feature throughout the performance, and the performance ends with even more fire.

Since their first album, MEGARA have gone on to release a further two albums. In 2022 they released the album “Truco o trato”. This third album contained the single “Arcadia”, which was when MEGARA’s journey with Eurovision began. In 2023, MEGARA took part in Spanish national final Benidorm Fest, the group made it all the way to the final, placing in fourth overall. Following this, MEGARA then started the journey towards representing San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2024.

MEGARA’s Eurovision 2024 song “11:11” was written by the members of the band.

San Marino’s Eurovision Journey

As one of the smallest countries in Europe, San Marino made its debut in the competition in 2008 with Miodio and the song “Complice”. Since then they have participated in the competition 13 times (3 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final), and their best result was in 2019, with Serhat and “Say Na Na Na”.

Italian band Piqued Jacks represented San Marino in 2023 in Liverpool with the song “Like An Animal”. The band performed in the second semi-final, but unfortunately didn’t qualify for the Grand Final. Overall, San Marino placed joint-last, receiving 0 points from the televote.
