Hi everyone !! I’m Samantha, and I’m a social media coordinator and graphic designer here at That Eurovision Site. I was born in Scotland (but I am half English … ) until I moved to the middle of nowhere in the French countryside when I was four (need I say that Eurovision is therefore not a big thing where I’m from). I am currently entering my first year of a master’s degree in Intercultural Management. Outside of Eurovision I’m interested in Formula 1, languages, politics, history, travelling, reading a stupid amount of books and anything music related !!

How did I get into the Eurovision Song Contest?
Emmelie De Forest’s win at Eurovision in 2014 was the song that got me into the contest. For some reason I was watching her interview on BBC Breakfast (why I wasn’t at school I do not know) and heard a snippet of “Only Teardrops” and became Eurovision mad from them onwards.
At what point did I consider myself as a “Eurofan” ?
I’ve been watching the finals since 2015, but never the semi-finals until Jamala won in 2016. I started to delve deeper into the contest from then (ie : Semi-Finals, National Finals and the huge fanbase which was still mainly on YouTube at the time). Now, because of Eurovision living rent-free in my head, I hope to be able to do my end of degree internship somewhere in the realm of Eurovision.
How has my life changed since becoming a Eurofan ?
I’ve yet to go to anything Eurovision related (yes, school is to blame) although I definitely bore my friends and family with my Eurovision obsession. Thanks to Eurovision however I’ve discovered hundreds of amazing artists and musicians (whether they have been to Eurovision or not) that now fill my head with lyrics and useless facts, so thanks Eurovision !!
What are my favourite Eurovision songs and countries ?
Bare with me because this is eclectic to say the least. My favourite genres of music are country and indie rock, but you would never guess that from my Eurovision favourites :
- 🇺🇦 Ukraine (2016) – Jamala with “1944”
- 🇩🇰 Denmark (2013) – Emmelie De Forest with “Only Teardrops”
- 🇪🇪 Estonia (2024) – 5MIINUST x Puuluup with “(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (kull) midagi” (the brainrot is real)
- 🇸🇪 Sweden (1974) – ABBA with “Waterloo” (if you don’t love Abba sorry, but I don’t trust you)
- 🇸🇮 Slovenia (2023) – Joker Out with “Carpe Diem”
- 🇳🇱 Netherlands (2014) – The Common Linnets with “Calm After The Storm”
- 🇪🇸 Spain (2022) – Chanel with “Slo Mo”
- 🇮🇹 Italy (2023) – Marco Mengoni with “Due Vite”
and the list could go on, but I’ll stop there. My favourite countries in Eurovision change from year to year, but Finland, Italy and mostly all the Balkan countries are always consistent for me.
What are my favourite National Final Songs ?
In the months leading up to Eurovision I seem to be a connoisseur of every single European language thanks to the National Finals, so here are some of my favourites (the full list is far too long) from recent years :
- 🇫🇮 KUUMAA with “Ylivoimainen” (UMK 2023 – Finland)
- 🇫🇮 Younghearted with “Sun Numero” (UMK 2022 – Finland)
- 🇪🇪 Andrei Zevakin & Grete Paia with “Mis Nuud Saab (Eesti Laul 2022 – Estonia)
- 🇪🇸 Tanxugueiras with “Terra” (Benidorm Fest 2022 – Spain)
- 🇮🇸 Bashar Murad with “Wild West” (Songvakeppnin 2024 – Iceland)
- 🇸🇪 Dotter with Bulletproof (Melodifestivalen 2020 – Sweden)
What am I looking forward to in the new Eurovision season ?
I’m looking forward to the new season for so many reasons, the main one being new artists to fangirl over, and I can’t wait to see all the surprises that this season will bring !!
