Other Highlights
There is way too much music released every month to cover in-depth, but here are some of the best and biggest new tracks from other Eurovision artists:
zalagasper – “med in mleko”
It has been a little while since zalagasper appeared in the round-up with new music. Now the Slovenian duo is back with “med in mleko” (honey and milk). This sweet and, as always, gentle stripped back track is a love song contemplating how everything comes and goes but the one you love is always there by your side.
Käärijä – “Sex = Money”
“Sex = Money” is the most I have personally enjoyed a Käärijä project in… ever? The loud, rough, aggressive verses are beautifully contrasted with the melodic yet still powerful chorus that also is deceptively catchy. Käarijä’s usual team of himself, Sonny Kylä-Liuhala, and Aleksi Nurmi wrote this song together with Max Sene aka Sexmane. Käärijä’s frequent producers Nurmi and Kiro co-produced this banger.
Vesna ft. EGO – “Moravo”
With new music comes further experimenting with sound for Vesna. “Moravo” (Moravia) is an ode to the region of the same name which makes up one of the three historical Czech lands alongside Bohemia and Czech Silesia. The lyrics were written by Slovak rapper Michal Straka aka EGO, who also features on the track, and Patricie Kaňok while the composition also sees Bjarke Sørensen (The New Madness, Lit & Extinguished, Brx) added to the mix.
Nevena Božović & Igor Simić – “IDE GAS”
“IDE GAS” (GIVE GAS) is the name of the game for the film Prva klasa – Pun gas and its accompanying song by Nevena Božović & Igor Simić. Musically reminiscent of a darker version of something like Blondie’s “Heart of Glass”, this is a tasty disco-y, new wave-y piece of energy.
Tamara Todevska feat Kosta Dean – “Nikoj kako ti”
There is “Nikoj kako ti” (No one like you), Tamara Todevska and Kosta Dean sing to each other on this groovy, funky duet. This exploration of the complexities of relationships was written and produced by Kosta.
АНАСТАСІЯ ПРИХОДЬКО – “НА ВІТРАХ”
Ukrainian artist Anastasia Prikhodko competed with the song “Mamo” in 2009, but since then her music has taken quite a journey. While never shy to incorporate traditional folk elements and contemporary pop sensibilities, “НА ВІТРАХ” (ON THE WINDS) is a lowkey banging folktronica track that will have you swaying and humming along long before the song is over.
Clou (feat MARO) – “Mes rêves”, MARO & NASAYA – “CRYCRYCRY”
MARO had a very, very busy month this October. Besides releasing an EP that includes old and new (re)mixes and performances of “saudade, saudade”, she also continued her work with NASAYA and showed up on the new album by French singer-songwriter Clou.
Let’s start of this host of new music with Clou, which sees MARO sing along on the track “Mes rêves” (My dreams). This was quickly followed by “CRYCRYCRY”, the latest in MARO’s series of songs with NASAYA. Just like before, MARO’s voice and NASAYA’s knack for finding strong electronic arrangements get mixed with the desire to expand and change the sound that both artists have shown so far. Finally, the “saudade, saudade” EP is a collection of versions of MARO’s Eurovision entry.
Gustaph – “Calls Your Name”
Ahead of his debut album releasing early next year, Gustaph is treating us to new music courtesy of “Calls Your Name”. This house-inspired track is very 90s and was inspired by the crowd Gustaph saw at a gig where he was DJing.
DØR – “CAPAZ (feat. Isaura)”
Yes, I know I mentioned this album and this song but this song with Isaura is good enough to warrant a proper entry in the round-up. An almost classic hip-hop style beat grows into a rough yet lush electronic arrangement complimented and contrasted by Isaura’s distinctive vocals creating a moody, groovy experience.
Benjamin Ingrosso – “Pink Velvet Theatre” (LP)
Once again making one of his frequent appearances in this roundup is Benjamin Ingrosso! The 2018 contestant and 2024 interval act released “Pink Velvet Theatre” this month, his 5th studio album of the year. We’ve written all about the Album Of The Month here:
