With the start of the new year, countries are now starting to announce if they will be participating in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest. One of those countries we won’t see is Denmark, which has revealed it won’t be participating in 2025.

“Wanting to focus on developing own programming for children”

The news of Denmark’s non-participation at Junior Eurovision 2025, was reported by ESCPlus ES. With broadcaster (DR) providing the following quote:

“Although we continually evaluate our participation in international projects , we have so far
decided not to participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest . The decision is primarily due to
our desire to focus on developing our own programmes and activities for children
that are tailored to the everyday life and context of Danish children .”

Mrs. Marlene Boel on participating at Junior Eurovision

Speaking about the changes and safeguarding policies they have put in place, Mrs. Boel had the following comment:

“ We recognise that the EBU has made important changes to the format and is highlighting the
welfare of children in the competition, which is positive.”

Denmark’s non-participation would see them miss out on the competition, for the 20th year in a row. Denmark has not participated in the competition since 2005 when the competition took place in Haaslet.

Denmark’s Junior Eurovision Journey

The Scandinavian nation was the home of the inaugural edition of the competition in 2003, where they were represented by Anne Gadegaard with the song “Arabiens drøm”, which placed 5th. They participated until 2005, which saw them represented by Nicolai and the song “Shake Shake Shake”, which ended up as Denmark’s best result in the competition to date.
