Greek media reported that the 187 entries submitted to ERT have been narrowed down to 12 songs that will compete in this month’s selection; with 3 extra songs in reserve in the event of an act’s withdrawal or disqualification.

The final of Greece’s selection this year is expected to take place in the Christmas Theatre in Athens, on the 30th of January. This comes after the show had been delayed from its initial broadcast plan for the preceding day. It has been reported that former Greek entrant Sakis Rouvas will join 2005 winner Helena Paparizou in the hosting of the show.

Greece’s Eurovision Journey

In 1974, Greece made its debut to the Eurovision Song Contest with “Krasi, thalassa ke t’agori mou” which placed 11th. Since then they have participated on 44 occasions (41 of which made the Grand Final), and have won once, in 2005.

Greece’s most recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Marina Satti with the song “Zari”. Following her performance, Greece qualified for the Grand Final, finishing in 11th place in the Grand Final in Malmö. She earned a total of 126 points, of which 41 were from the national juries and 85 were from the televoters.
