With Eurovision 2025 just weeks away, Cyprus’ Theo Evan has given further details about his staging for Basel.
“Demanding and difficult” performance for Theo Evan
Speaking on the Greek TV show “Super Katerina”, Theo Evan revealed some more information about his Eurovision staging. In the interview, Theo revealed that Dimitris Kontopoulos was contacted regarding the song. He explained:
I got in touch with Dimitris Kontopoulos and he met with the composers who made “The Code” which won last year. They studied my voice and wrote the song on me. I am very honoured by this. Someone who understands music understands that the song is quite difficult. It starts on a very low scale and goes very high.
Theo Evan also gave some more secrets as to what his staging could entail. He continued:
Our act will be very demanding and difficult. I’ve already been to Spain three times for the rehearsals. After each rehearsal, my body needs two days to recover.
We won’t be doing a dance routine, that would be expected because I have a background in dance. I like to experiment and I trust my team. We’re going to do something that’s a big risk.
The song refers to a secret person, who will only be revealed on stage.
Cyprus’ staging will be directed by Sergio Jaen, who is also in charge of Erika Vikman’s and JJ’s staging.
Cyprus’ Eurovision journey
The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song “Monika” and place 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 40 times (33 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final).
In 2024, CyBC internally selected Silia Kapsis to represent them in Malmö with the song “Liar”. During her participation in Malmö, Silia qualified for the final, before going on to finish in 15th place with a total of 78 points. The juries gave Cyprus 34 points, whilst the televote awarded Silia 44 points.
