RTVE – the national broadcaster in Spain – has confirmed that they will be taking part in this year’s upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Spain to hold open auditions
In a press release, RTVE confirmed that Spain will compete in its seventh Junior Eurovision later this year. The country is passing on the hosting baton to Georgia ahead of the next edition in Tbilisi on December 13th.
Like last year, RTVE is to hold an open call for interested singers to show their interest. Any child who shows interest in taking part will need to have the explicit consent of both parents. On top of this, they will also need to share two videos of them performing.
The selection process will begin with an online round, where interested acts will sign a form available on RTVE’s website until June 30th. The second round will be an in-person casting held in Madrid around mid-July. Those who wish to take part will be told in advance of the date.
Spain’s Junior Eurovision journey
Spain has taken part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest a total of 9 times, with their first participation coming in the first edition of the Contest in 2003. In the initial Contest, Spain was represented by Sergio singing “Desde el cielo”, and at the close of voting Spain finished in second place, earning 125 points. Spain would go on to win the next edition of the show with Marรญa Isabel’s “Antes Muerte Que Sencilla”, finishing with 171 points.
Spain hosted the 2024 contest after 2023 winner France turned down hosting rights. Their hometown girl was Chloe DelaRosa, who sang “Como La Lola”; she received 80 points from the jury and 64 from the online vote, combining for a total score of 144 points and sixth place.
