Other Highlights
There is way too much music released every month to cover in-depth, but here are some of the best and biggest new tracks from other Eurovision artists:
Froukje, S10 – “Frok en Stien” (EP)
The duo of S10 and Froukje have a long history of working together. Now they have an EP out together. Previous releases “Ik Haat Hem Voor Jou” and “Hart In Brand” are joined by two new pieces of music on “Frok en Stien”. Opener “Offline” is a house track with emo lyrics that deal with a relationship between two people that recently hurt each other and the regret that comes with that. “Misschien” (Maybe) delves into the alt-pop, singer-songwriter sensibilities that both artists show on occasion. The piano track sees S10 sing about how she can lean on Froukje during the difficult time she is currently going through. EP of the month!
Jeangu Macrooy – “Young, Awkward & Lonely” (LP)
It. Is. Here! Jeangu’s album “Young, Awkward & Lonely” has been a while coming. Excellent pre-release singles such as the title track, 2024 stand-out “Happier“, the warm embrace of “Everybody Needs Somebody“, the excellently titled bop “Independent Girls & Nasty Evil Gays“, or the surprisingly poppy “Something Better” already were showered with praise in previous round-ups. They are joined by new cuts for the cuts like the moody “Tonight I’m Gonna Get High”, the stunning indie folk of “Northern Star”, and album closer “The Distance”, which sees Jeangu return to the acoustic guitars and layered vocals. Album of the month!
Zdob și Zdub – “Pas de cumpără noroc”
Train dads, Eurovision legends, round-up regulars: whatever you want to call Zdob și Zdub, you just know they will give you a fun song. “Pas de cumpără noroc” (Don’t buy luck) feels like a celebration of 30 years of the group, as it combines elements of the group’s sound past and current. And, indeed, it is! This song is part of an upcoming album that is part of a big celebration of the 30 years and running that they have brought fun music to the world. The music video is made by the creators of the iconic “Trenulețul” video and also very much worth checking out.
alyona alyona & SKYLERR – “Лети”
alyona alyona and SKYLERR want to “Лети” (Fly) on this certified bop. The track sees both artists work together to sing about inner strength, freedom, and the conviction that you should not give up. The amazing choir backing vocals that make this track feel magical are courtesy of the Veryovka Ukrainian Folk Choir.
MARO – “I OWE IT TO YOU”
“I owe it to you” to tell you about this new MARO song. As always, it is a warm, gentle, fairly unassuming song. I will be brutally honest and tell you it is not her best, but it still is a very pleasant listen and a very sweet love song.
Raiven – “Reverie”
Last time we spoke about Raiven, she was about to kick off her European tour. Now she returns to the round-up with her new song “Reverie”, which you can read about here:
