🇵🇹 TES Preview: “Simplistic and Effective” for Simão’s rehearsal

Today, nine of the participating countries of the 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest are having their second rehearsal. These are Portugal, Ireland, Malta, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Georgia, Spain, and Poland.

In today’s rehearsal, the attending Press had the opportunity to watch the full rehearsals from these countries. Before we find out what happens in Portugal’s rehearsal, let’s see how his first rehearsal went.

What happens during Simão’s performance?

In his performance, we see Simão’s standing in the middle of the stage, with a starry background. Throughout the performance, Simão stays in the middle of the stage. However, the LED background changes to pictures. Vocally, Simão shines very well. His performance is simplistic, and it’s very effective.

Portugal’s Junior Eurovision Journey

Portugal has had a checkered history at Junior Eurovision, with little success at the Contest. The nation debuted in the Contest in 2006, with Pedro Madeira and “Deixa-me sentir”. Their first entry has since delivered Portugal’s best result at the Contest – finishing in 14th place.

The last time Portugal took part in Junior Eurovision was in 2019, withdrawing in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, Joana Almeida represented Portugal in Gliwice with the song “Vem conmigo (Come with Me)”. At the close of voting, Almeida finished in 16th position in a field of 19.
