As the submission window in Moldova comes to an end, public broadcaster TRM has revealed some information about O Melodi Pentru Europa 2022. The most interesting fact was that of the submitted entries, the majority of songs have been from outside Moldova.
All O melodi’s welcome
During a discussion about the selection on TRM, the head of the jury announced that most of the received submissions had been from abroad. As a result, the broadcaster cited increased international interest in O Melodi Pentru Europa 2022. However, despite the international submissions – only entries performed by Moldovan citizens will be eligible to compete.
The submission window for O Melodi Pentru Europa 2022 has not yet closed. Interested artists and songwriters still have until the 24th of January at 17:00 EET to submit their entry.
Once all songs are submitted, live auditions will be held on January 28th and 29th, with the potential for a full-scale national selection March 5th. However, if the quality of songs is not up to the broadcaster’s standards, an internal selection will be carried out.
Moldova’s Eurovision history
Moldova is relatively new to the Eurovision Song Contest, joining in 2005. Their debut entry, Zdob si Zdub, finished in 6th place, which had remained their highest scoring entry up until 2017. This was thanks to the Sunstroke Project performing ‘Hey Mamma’, finishing in 3rd place. At the close of voting, Moldova received 374 points.
In 2021, Natalia Gordienko represented Moldova at the Contest in Rotterdam. Performing her song ‘Sugar’, Moldova qualified for the final and finished in 13th place. Following the jury and televote points, Natalia had received 115 points.
