As the days pass by since the conclusion of Eurovision 2023, we look into Junior Eurovision 2023, which will take place in ‘Nice’ in six months time. With an exciting time ahead, some countries have revealed that unfortunately, they will not be joining the party, with Switzerland being the next country to reveal this.
Limited resources behind in non-participation
As reported by ESCPlus, Swiss Broadcaster RSI mentioned that they have limited resources, and are aiming to diversify their programming as much as possible, but doesn’t rule out a return to the competition in the future.
โThe channels of the SRG conglomerate are focusing on making notable participations in the Eurovision Song Contest and therefore we will not be able to be present at the Nice Junior Eurovision Song Contest in December. The four companies that are part of our television unit have quite limited resources, which are dedicated with the aim of making programming as diverse as possible. Who knows, things may change in the next few years.”
Joanne Holder from RSI (translated)
Switzerland’s non-participation will see them miss the competition for the 18th year in a row. Switzerland has not participated at Junior Eurovision since its debut in 2004 when the contest took place in Lillehammer.
