Could Belgium return to Junior Eurovision? VRT is considering a return to the contest, 12 years after the country’s last participation.

The News

When confirming their non-participation in Nice last year, VRT said they would consider participating in 2024. According to recent news from Eurofestival.es, the network will reconsider its position on the contest, so it can’t rule out a potential return to Junior Eurovision. Should they decide to return the children’s TV channel Ketnet, which falls under VRT’s umbrella, would likely be where it is broadcast. The channel was in charge of broadcasting the show during Belgium’s previous participations.

Junior Eurovision 2024 confirmed countries

So far, two countries have confirmed participation in the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest: The Netherlands and Poland. Estonia has also signalled its intentions to continue competing in the contest after debuting in Nice this past November. There is a possibility that Iceland could make its debut at the contest as well. However, fellow Nordic nations Finland and Denmark have announced that they will not be taking part in the 2024 contest.

Belgium’s Junior Eurovision History

In 2003, Belgium was one of the countries who participated in the inaugural edition of the competition, where they were represented by X!NK with the song “De vriendschapsband”, which placed 6th. Since their debut, they have participated ten times, with their best result in 2009 (4th). Their latest attempt was in 2012, when Fabian represented them with the song “Abracadabra”, which placed 5th.
