Other highlights
There is way too much music released every month to cover in-depth, but here are some of the best and biggest new tracks from other Eurovision artists:
Barbara Pravi – “Bravo”
Barbara Pravi serves us a little taste of what her new album will sound like with “Bravo”. It’s an uplifting pop-rock track in which Pravi sings about how we should celebrate even the tiniest achievements. After all, if we don’t celebrate ourselves, who will?
Chanel – “¡AGUA!” (LP)
It’s an 11 track collection of new music and previously released singles for Chanel on her new album “¡AGUA!” (WATER!). From seductive opener “Clavaita” to dancefloor filler “Vuelta y Vuelta” or the more emotional title track and album closer “Agua,” this is a strong debut album by Spain’s 2022 Eurovision representative.
Eva Boto – “KJER NAJBOLJ GORI”
Slovenia’s 2012 representative Eva Boto sings about “KJER NAJBOLJ GORI” (WHERE IT BURNS THE MOST). The acoustic guitar powered track sees Eva encourage her lover to go with her to the place where their passion burns the most, so that he can feel how deeply he loves her.
Stella Mwangi – “Talk That Talk”
Speaking of early 2010’s Eurovision: Norway’s 2011 representative Stella Mwangi is ready to “Talk That Talk”. Stella Mwangi raps about how no one does it like she does and based on her delivery on this track I fully believe her. The stellar beat is courtesy of GREG HVNSEN, who also produced Stella’s 2022 EP “Icon”.
Michael Schulte, Norma Jean Martine – “If you love me”
Michael Schulte teams up with American singer-songwriter Norma Jean Martine, who has tons of impressive songwriting credits under her belt, such as Italy’s 2016 entry “No Degree of Separation,” Giorgia’s “Quando Una Stella Muore,” Lena’s “In The Light,” and many more. “If you love me” is the exact kind of emotional ballad you expect from Schulte, and the two singers sound amazing together.
Koza Mostra – “Elvis”
It’s time for ska, heartland rock, and more with Koza Mostra as Greece’s 2013 entry gives us “Elvis”. The band have stated that the song is a new year’s present to all their fans. It is a musically eclectic, energetic, and all-around fun journey with more disparate influences than I can mention.
We Are Domi – “Glow”
With the lights off, We Are Domi are ready to “Glow”. The electro-pop track deals with the good and bad of life through the metaphor of winter. From the beauty of falling snow to the painful cold, the pain of loss or the sensation of a new start that the fresh winter air can bring.
Benjamin Ingrosso – “Kite”
Benjamin Ingrosso, why did you release this track in January? This is the kind of indie pop that dominates my playlists in the latter stages of the summer, not in the depths of winter. Anyway: “Kite” is a great upbeat indie pop track with a production that reminds me of Foster The People, Graffiti6, Portugal. The Man and so on. The song was written by Benjamin together with Anya Jones (Kylie Minogue, Birdy, Little Mix), and composed by the song’s producers: Jon Shave (Guetta’s “Titanium,” Jessie J, Girls Aloud) and the duo Vargas & Lagola (Avicii, Agnes, but also their own tracks such as “Roads”).
POL BATLLE – “NO HO HAS ENTÈS” (Feat. MARO)
Catalan musician Pol Batlle invited MARO to feature on his new track “NO HO HAS ENTÈS” (YOU DIDN’T UNDERSTAND). From the gentlest of starts to an overwhelming wall of acoustic sound, the track deals with how children teach their parents just as much as parents do their kids.
Páll Óskar – “Elskar þú mig ennþá?”
The 1997 latex daddy is back with one question: “Elskar þú mig ennþá?” (Do you still love me?). A moody yet seductive electronic melody underpins Páll’s distinctive vocals. The track sees Páll continue his work with Egill Rafnsson and Svein Marteinn Jónsson (Dimma’s “Almyrkvi”), plus Jonny Cole (Catherine Feeny’s “Mr Blue” and much more).
Vaidas Baumila – “Besarmatė”
Vaidas was one half of Lithuania’s 2015 duo and is now serving up some danceable indiepop with “Besarmatė”. Speaking to broadcaster LRT, the singer says about the song that it will inspire grandparents to invite their grandkids to the dancefloor at weddings.
Konstrakta – “Novo, bolje”
Now, usually I don’t cover songs going to national finals on here but for Konstrakta I obviously make an exception. “Novo, bolje” (New, better) is the name of the game for Konstrakta, who once again uses an eclectic and entrancing mix of genres to draw you into the song. The track builds on the social critiques from her other songs, and this time predominantly focuses on the feeling of always needing more, no matter how much you have or achieved.
