Because the Finnish singer’s stage name uses the Windows brand name, there was question about whether or not he would be allowed to keep it at Eurovision. The EBU does not permit use of brand names to maintain impartiality and not to infringe upon its sponsors. However, is.fi revealed in early March that the stage name would remain!
Windows95Man may keep stage name
Windows95Man is the stage name of Teemu Kesteri, a visual artist and DJ originally from Espoo, Finland. His song “No Rules” also features uncredited vocals from songwriter Henri Piispanen.
While the stage name will go to Eurovision, Windows95Man’s costume will not–his t-shirt and cap bearing the Windows 95 logo were deemed in violation of Eurovision rules. Kesteri told is.fi that he intends to censor the logo in “the funniest way possible”.
Windows95Man won Finland’s national final UMK back in February. He and Piispanen will perform in the first semifinal.
Finland’s Eurovision Journey
Finland debuted in the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing 10th with Laila Kunnunen’s “Valoa ikkunassa.” Since then they have competed 56 times and appeared in the final 48 times. Finland has finished in the top 10 an impressive 14 times. They won the contest once in 2006, with Lordi’s performance of “Hard Rock Hallelujah” getting 292 points.
Finland’s most recent entry was “Cha Cha Cha” by Käärijä. He won the first semi-final in Liverpool, qualifying for the final. At the close of voting, he gained a total of 526 points, earning 2nd place – Finland’s second best result of all time. 376 points came from the televote, and 150 points from the juries.
