A couple of weeks after the submissions for Sweden’s Eurovision 2025 selection Melodifestivalen closed, it did not take long until the rumors started, as local media are reporting that Eurovision 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw wants to compete in next year’s competition.
Trying again 10 years after Eurovision win
As reported by Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that the Eurovision winner is planning to make a comeback, and has written several song with different songwriters to produce a suitable entry for Melodifestivalen. It is also being reported that Måns has already been in touch with Fredrik “Benke” Rydman, who was responsible for his Eurovision 2015 staging, as well as Käärijä and Nemo’s staging for Eurovision.
Since his Eurovision win, Måns has hosted Eurovision in 2016, appeared in numerous Eurovision National finals as a guest, as well as hosting the UK’s 2019 selection Eurovision: You Decide. In terms of Eurovision appearances, Måns has been a staple, making appearances in the contest since his win.
His latest appearance in the Eurovision world was earlier this year, when he participated in the interval act as part of Björnzone performing “Still The One”.
Sweden’s Eurovision Journey
In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).
In 2024, Marcus and Martinus represented Sweden on home soil. As the host entry, their song “Unforgettable” did not need to compete in the semi-finals. At the close of voting in the grand final, they had received 174 points. 125 points were received by the juries, while the twins received 49 points by televoters.
