Marina Satti performing ZARI for Greece at the Grand Final at Malmö Arena

With the national final that will decide the 2025 act for Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest just a few weeks away, we’ve learned some more about the songs that will compete for the ticket to Basel.

What we know about Greece’s national selection so far

Greek media is reporting that the 187 entries submitted to ERT have been narrowed down to 12 songs that will compete in this month’s selection; with 3 extra songs in reserve in the event of an act’s withdrawal or disqualification.

Between the 15th and 20th of January, Greece’s ERT will broadcast the songs during a special broadcast. With regards to the entries themselves, it has been noted that we should expect to hear songs in both English and Greek, with dance numbers, ballads, and ethnic songs listed participating genres. Curiously, ERT have also stated that those who contributed to the composition of the songs will not be revealed until after the end of the show itself.

The final of Greece’s selection this year is expected to take place in the Christmas Theatre in Athens, on the 30th of January. This comes after the show had been delayed from its initial broadcast plan for the preceding day. The report also suggested that former Greek entrant Sakis Rouvas will join 2005 winner Helena Paparizou in the hosting of the show.

At present we do not know who will be participating at the final, though it has been officially confirmed that the rumours of last year’s entrant Marina Satti participating were false.

Greece’s Eurovision Journey

In 1974, Greece made its debut to the Eurovision Song Contest with “Krasi, thalassa ke t’agori mou” which placed 11th. Since then they have participated on 44 occasions (41 of which made the Grand Final), and have won once, in 2005.

Greece’s most recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Marina Satti with the song “Zari”. Following her performance, Greece qualified for the Grand Final, finishing in 11th place in the Grand Final in Malmö. She earned a total of 126 points, of which 41 were from the national juries and 85 were from the televoters.
