Eurovision in Basel is just less than a month away. In the lead-up to the start of rehearsals, we will get to know a bit more about this year’s artists, their discography, and their Eurovision 2025 journey so far. Up next, we will preview Ireland’s EMMY.
EMMY’s Eurovision Journey So Far
In line with previous years Ireland selected its representative via its selection ‘Eurosong’, where six acts competed for the Irish ticket, and Emmy won the right to represent Ireland in Basel, after scoring the most votes overall from the two juries and televote. In Eurovision 2025, EMMY will be performing third, at the second semi-final on May 15.
EMMY’s song for Eurovision 2025 – “Laika Party” – was written by Emmy herself, as well as brother Erlend Kristiansen, Henrik Østlund, Larissa Tormey and Truls Marius Aarra.
What do we think of “Laika Party”?
The team at That Eurovision Site has reacted to Ireland’s entry for Basel. Tim gave his thoughts on “Laika Party”, which you can check out below.
In addition to Tim’s reaction to “Laika Party”, you can also find out what the other members of the team thought of Ireland’s entry right here.
Who is Emmy?
Emmy Kristiansen is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter born in Holmestrand, Norway. As a child, Emmy was interested in singing, joining a choir and even competing in MGP Junior, Norway’s singing competition for children. Following this, Emmy honed her skills, eventually competing at Melodi Grand Prix in 2021 with her song “Witch Woods”, where she reached the final, but ultimately lost to TIX. Following this, she worked with several other songwriters to write tracks that were submitted to Melodi Grand Prix.
Ireland’s Eurovision Journey
In 1965, Ireland made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with Butch Moore and the song “Walking the Streets in the Rain”, which managed to place 6th. Since their debut, Ireland has participated 57 times (making the Grand Final 46 times), and has won the competition seven times, which is currently tied for the record of most wins.
Ireland’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Bambie Thug, with their song “Doomsday Blue”. They placed 6th in the Grand Final, receiving 278 points in total, 138 of which were from televoters and 142 were from the national juries. This is Ireland’s best result in the 21st century.
