Eurovision in Basel is just less than a month away. In the lead-up to the start of rehearsals, we will get to know a bit more about this year’s artists, their discography, and their Eurovision 2025 journey so far. Up next, we will preview Malta’s Miriana Conte.
Miriana Conte’s Eurovision Journey So Far
In line with previous years, Malta opted to select its representative via its selection ‘Malta Eurovision Song Contest’, and after two semi-finals and a final, Miriana Conte won the right to represent Malta in Basel with “Kant”. However, after the contest and in the midst of filming the music video, it was revealed that the EBU had barred using the word “Kant”, with the entry being retitled to “SERVING“. In Eurovision 2025, Miriana Conte will be performing ninth in the second semi-final on May 15.
Miriana’s song for Eurovision 2025 – “SERVING”, formerly known as “Kant” – was written by Miriana herself, as well as Benjamin Schmid, Muxu and Sarah Evelyn Fullerton.
What do we think of “SERVING”?
The team at That Eurovision Site has reacted to Malta’s entry for Basel. Tim gave his thoughts on “SERVING”, which you can check out below.
In addition to Tim’s reaction to “SERVING”, you can also find out what the other members of the team thought of Malta’s entry right here.
Who is Miriana Conte?
Miriana Conte is a 24-year-old singer from Malta. She first gained recognition within the country after she first attempted to represent Malta at Eurovision 2017, but finished in last place. She would unsuccessfully try to repesent Malta another three times – in 2018, 2022 and 2024. In 2018, she went on to compete on the Maltese version of The X Factor, going onto become a member of the group 4th Line – where they reached the final. One year later, she went solo and reauditioned as a solo act, but failed to make the final.
Malta’s Eurovision Journey
Malta made its Eurovision debut in 1971, with Joe Grech performing “Marija I-Maltija” (Maria the Maltese Lass), finishing 18th with 52 points. Malta did not participate in Eurovision from 1975 until 1991, when they returned with the song “Could It Be” by Paul Giordimaina and Georgina, finishing 12th with 32 points. Since then, Malta has been at every Eurovision and finished in the top 10 an impressive 12 times. Their best result is second place, which they’ve achieved twice. The first time was in 2002, when Ira Losco sang “7th Wonder,” and the second time in 2005 with Chiara’s “Angel.”
Sarah Bonnici represented Malta in 2024 with her song “Loop”. When all was said and done, Sarah placed 16th in the second semifinal, garnering 13 points.
