Eurovision in Basel is just less than a month away. In the lead-up to the start of rehearsals, we will get to know a bit more about this year’s artists, their discography, and their Eurovision 2025 journey so far. Up next, we will preview Georgia’s Mariam Shengelia.
Mariam Shengelia’s Eurovision Journey So Far
Georgia internally selected its Eurovision representative for Basel, with Mariam Shengelia being confirmed as the representative on March 14. In Eurovision 2025, Georgia will be performing tenth at the second semi-final on May 15.
Mariam’s entry for Eurovision 2025 – “Freedom” – was written by Keti Gabisiani and Buka Kartozia.

Who is Mariam Shengelia?
Mariam Shangelia is a 22-year-old singer from the Mingrelia region of Georgia. She first took an interest in singing at an early age, going on to attend the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, where she trained in soul, pop and jazz music. She gained national recognition in 2018, when she reached the semi-finals of the Georgian version of The X Factor. She also has Eurovision experience, having been a backing singer for Tornike Kipiani for his effort in 2020 – which was ultimately cancelled. Since then, she has gone on to appear on The Voice Georgia and Dancing with the Stars.
Georgia’s Eurovision Journey
Georgia’s history in Eurovision has been mixed since they began competing in 2007, represented by Sopho Khalvashi with “Visionary Dream”. Their highest placements – both coming in 9th – were achieved in 2010 and 2011, with Sopho Niharadze performing Shine and Eldrine with One More Day. They have not qualified for the final since 2016, where they were represented by Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz with Midnight Gold.
For 2024, former American Idol contestant Nutsa Buzaladze represented Georgia with her song “Firefighter”. In Malmö, Georgia qualified for the Grand Final for the first time since 2016. In the Grand Final Nutsa received 34 points, 19 of these were from the televoters, while the other 15 were from the national juries.
