🇱🇺 That Eurovision Preview: Who is Laura Thorn?

Eurovision in Basel is less than a month away. In the lead-up to the start of rehearsals, we will get to know a bit more about this year’s artists, their discography, and their Eurovision 2025 journey so far. Next up, we will preview Luxembourg’s Laura Thorn.

Laura Thorn’s Eurovision Journey So Far

After their return in 2024, Luxembourg opted to once again use its selection ‘Luxembourg Song Contest’ to select its representative for Basel. With the conclusion of the selection, Laura Thorn won the right to represent Luxembourg in Basel, after obtaining the most scores from the Jury and Televote combined. In Eurovision 2025, it has been revealed that Laura will be performing thirteenth in the second semi-final on May 15.

Laura’s Eurovision song – “La poupée monte le son” harks back to Luxembourg’s winning song from 1965. The track was written by Christophe Houssin, Julien Salvia and Ludovic-Alexandre Vidal.

Who is Laura Thorn?

Laura Thorn is a 25-year-old singer from Luxembourg. Though new to the public eye, Laura Thorn might be one of the most qualified musicians in all of Luxembourg, possessing training in several aspects of music performance, most recently completing a Master’s degree in Music Theory, Music Pedagogy and Pop Singing from the Institute Royal Top Music and Pédagogie De Namur in Belgium. She teaches as the Esch-sur-Alzette Conservatory.

Luxembourg’s Eurovision Journey

Luxembourg first made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les Amants de minuit”, both performed by Michèle Arnaud. Since the first Contest, Luxembourg has competed a total of 38 times. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983 respectively.

Luxembourg returned to the contest for the first time in 31 years in 2024. Tali represented Luxembourg in Malmö, with the song “Fighter” bringing Luxembourg their first semifinal qualification–since they last participated before the semifinal system even existed! In the Grand Final, “Fighter” received 103 points: 83 from the national juries, and 20 from the televoters.
