Melfest alums
With people wanting me to highlight so much new music this month, I have had to make a separate page just for the notable releases by former Melfest contestants. Enjoy some of Sweden’s finest pop offerings!
Theo – “Dagar som aldrig tar slut”
“Dagar som aldrig tar slut” (Days that never end) is the beginning of a new era for Theodor Jan Haraldsson. This is the first song since he has announced he will no longer be releasing music under the name Theoz, and instead will be releasing under the moniker THEO. Fans don’t have to worry however, “Dagar som aldrig tar slut” builds on THEO’s familiar slick, poppy sound with maybe a bit more confidence and a more direct delivery than previously.
Klara Hammarström – “MAD”
Klara Hammarström is “MAD” on her new pop rock offering. The break-up track sees Klara sing about how, despite how the situation sucks, she still empathizes with the other person. “MAD” was written by Amanda Cygnaeus (Paloma Faith, Benjamin Ingrosso, Otto Knows), Clara Hagman (herself as Clara Mae, plus Alessandra, KREAM), Samuel Kvist (HAYES, FO&O, dePresno) and Timothy Caifeldt (Niklas, Benjamin Ingrosso, Mangoo), with Elias Edman (Omar Rudberg, Noah Hellsin, Tusse) producing.
Lucas Estrada, LIAMOO – “Love on repeat”
LIAMOO teams up twice this month, and the first track is EDM banger “Love on repeat” together with Lucas Estrada. The song is about LIAMOO having fallen for someone and needing their “Love on repeat”.
LIAMOO x Smash Into Pieces – “Flame”
The Melfest mainstay also teamed up with Melfest rockers Smash Into Pieces for joint new song “Flame”. This song is a good combination of the sounds of the poppy, dancey LIAMOO and the rocky Smash Into Pieces, creating an excellent blend for an enjoyable track.
Melina Borglowe – “En tår för varje tår”
“En tår för varje tår” (A tear for every tear), Melina Borglowe sings on this gentle indie track. The song is about being lonely together, and how both people carry their sadness in that situation. Very sweet and I definitely recommend!
Darin – “Moonlight”
It’s time to dance in the “Moonlight” on the shiny new track by Darin, which is all about the temptations of nightlife. Darin wrote the song togetrher with Connor Maynard, Leo Stannard (his own music, plus AR/CO), and Will Sims (Pussycat Dolls, Aitana, LOONA). Sims also produced the track, together with Jenson Vaughan (Armin van Buuren, Purple Disco Machine, Sigala).
Dolly Style – “Mermaid”
Potentially the most brightly coloured girl group in the world returns to the round-up with “Mermaid”. The song is about, what else, the members being mermaids. The song is written by Christian Karlström (Maximus, Michael Rice, Enoka), and Melfest veterans Laurell Barker and Andreas Stone Johansson. Andreas and Christian also produced the track.
Melanie Wehbe – “In Your Eyes”
She did it all “For The Show,” and now she is singing about what she sees “In Your Eyes”. This break-up song revolves around Melanie being able to tell that her partner is no longer wanting to be part of this relationship. Lots of vocal layering, solid drums, and a lot of (layered) other instrumentations meanwhile do the musical lifting. Swedish music industry heavy-hitters Patrik jean, David Lindgren Zacharias, and Herman Gardarfve wrote the track, with Herman also taking on production duties.
Tennessee Tears – “Queen of Pearls”
Mello duo Tennessee Tears are back with the country song “Queen of Pearls,” which will have you swaying along in no time. The track was produced by Erik Benholm (Anna Bergendahl, Pastora Soler, Steps).
Molly Hammar & Albin Lee Meldau – “Misstro”
Molly Hammar and Albin Lee Meldau join forces for the subdued and lovely “Misstro”. Their voices blend beautifully together, and also work excellently with the laid-back guitar-led music. The song is one of two singles that Albin Lee Meldau dropped recently.
Medina – “Om igen”
Bringing the party are, as always, Medina, this time with the track “Om igen” (Again). “Om igen” is all about the fun and foolish memories made during their youth, and how they would do it all again in a heartbeat.
Felix Sandman – “Babymoma”
On this track, Felix raps about the complicated, poor relationship with his baby mama. He co-wrote and co-produced the song together with David Husberg (FO&O, Josefin Söderqvist, LNKAY).
Omar Rudberg – “Red Light”
Omar Rudberg’s “Red Light” is a mellow love track about falling for someone despite not meaning to.
Timo Räisänen, Oscar Zia, Parham – “DNA”
Three big Swedish artists team up on this new keyboard-driven song that slowly takes off and has a soaring end. The voices of Oscar Zia (Mello 2014, 2016, plus host in 2021 and 2022), Timo Räisänen (aftershow host of Mello 2010), and Parham (best known for his 2018 album “Torsken”) mesh beautifully on this song. Timo produced the song, and co-wrote it together with Parham and Lina Räisänen.
Danny Saucedo – “Honom”
Mr. “In The Club” shows up in this round-up with the decidedly lowkey guitar ballad “Honom” (Him). Danny shared lyric writing duties with Tom Mårtensson and the song’s composer Joakim Sebastian Andersson. Production duties were taken on by Bellman.
