Martin Green has been appointed to the new role of Director of the Eurovision Song Contest ahead of next year’s contest in Basel.
Who is Martin Green?
Martin Green is no stranger to the Eurovision world, having worked on Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool as Managing Director.
He also executive produced the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic opening ceremonies, as well was working on the ceremonies for The Commonwealth Games in 2022 and Hull’s City of Culture event in 2017. EBU media director Jean Philip De Tender said of Green:
Martinโs experience, strategic thinking and creative energy will be invaluable to the Song Contest as we get set for the 2025 event and evolve into the future,
Speaking of his appointment to the role, which he will take up next month after leaving his current role with TAIT, Green said:
The Eurovision Song Contest captures the imaginations of people across generations, countries and cultures. It remains a beacon of joy, artistry and diversity โ and a testament to the inclusive power of public service broadcasting.โ โBeing asked to lead the event is a dream come true and I look forward to working with everyone involved to take the project and the brand into an exciting future.
All About Eurovision 2025
Switzerland will be hosting the 69th edition of the competition following Nemoโs historic win at Eurovision 2024 in Malmรถ. A few weeks after their win, Reto Peritz, and Moritz Stadler, was announced as the Executive Producers, with the other roles revealed in July 2024.
Basel, Bern & Biel/Bienne, Geneva, and Zurich submitted bids to host next yearโs competition, with Basel and Geneva being shortlisted as the final two cities. After the shortlist, it was revealed that Basel will host Eurovision 2025, at St. Jakobshalle with the shows taking place on May 13, 15 and 17.
