Joost Klein’s Eurovision 2024 song “Europapa” has been nominated for song of the year in the Netherlands’ annual Edisons Award ceremony.

Euro-pa-pa-pa HEY!

Joost’s Eurovision song “Europapa” was a big hit in his native Netherlands, peaking twice at number 1 in the Dutch singles chart, spending a total of 7 weeks on top of the rankings.

The other two songs nominated are Frenna’s “Pretty Girls” and “Sugar Daddy” by Roxy Dekker.

The awards ceremony will take place on 10th March.

Eurovision connections from other nominees

Roxy Dekker

Competing against Joost for best song is Roxy Dekker, who won the award for best newcomer in 2024. Five years before this however, she took to stage as part of 6TIMES in 2019’s JuniorSongfestival, where the group came second.

Douwe Bob

Roxy Dekker is also nominated in best pop artist for her various singles, and is competing against another familiar name. Douwe Bob represented The Netherlands at Eurovision 2016 with the song “Slow Down”. He’s nominated for his album “Where did all the cool kids go?”. Ronnie Flex completes the lineup in the pop category.

Eefje De Visser

There are three absolutely fantastic artists nominated for best Nederlandstalig (Dutch language) artist, and one of them is Eefje de Visser, who opened the second semi-final of Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam alongside Redo.

She’s nominated for her album Heimwee, the follow up album to “Bitterzoet” which won her the prize for best alternative in 2021.

Froukje

We’re getting a little more disconnected from Eurovision now, but I’m incredibly biased towards Froukje, so she makes into the article. In addition to her many collabs with S10, and fantastic solo output that saw her nominated for the same Nederlandstalig as Eefje de Visser, Froukje found time in 2023 to serve on the Dutch jury at that year’s Eurovision. Also nominated in Nederlandstalig is Bente, who isn’t Eurovision related, but is very good.

What are the Edisons?

Comparable to a GRAMMY or BRIT Award, The Edisons are the Netherlands’ oldest music prize, having been awarded since 1960. The awards are split into three main categories: pop, jazz & classic, with a series of awards in each.
