CyBC announced earlier this week that Theo Evan’s song for Eurovision 2025 will be written by four writers, two of whom previously worked on “The Code”. More information about the song is still to come.
Songwriters for Theo Evan
Greek composer and producer Dimitris Kontopoulos will join Elsie Bay, NYLAN, and Linda Dale in creathing The Evan’s song for Basel. All four have significant experience in the Eurovision world.
Kontopoulos first entered the Eurovision sphere in 2003, when he wrote the song “Mia Stigmi” for Greece’s then national final. His work on Dmitry Koldun’s “Work Your Magic” brought him to the Eurovision stage for the first time, representing Belarus, and he has since worked on entries for Ukraine, Greece, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Moldova, as well as Cyprus. He is tied with Thomas G:son for authoring Eurovision entries for the most countries: both have represented seven countries as songwriters.
While Norwegian singer and songwriter Elsie Bay has never been to Eurovision, she has authored five entries for Melodi Grand Prix, and performed two of them herself. She has also written for German and Luxembourgish national final participants–her closest brush with Eurovision came last year, when Krick’s song “Drowning in the Rain” placed second at LSC. Outside of national finals, she has also written for Remo Forrer and Cyan Kicks.
NYLAN, real name Lasse Nyman, has written songs for Elsie Bay, but is best known in Eurovision spheres for his work on last year’s winning entry, “The Code”. He also worked on Umami Tsunami’s entry in Melodi Grand Prix 2023, “Geronimo”. Like Elsie Bay, he is Norwegian and currently based in Germany.
Linda Dale worked alongside NYLAN on “The Code” and had previously been to Eurovision as a songwriter for Alessandra’s “Queen of Kings”. She also worked on “Woman Show” for last year’s Melodi Grand Prix and “Je Danse” for this year’s edition of Luxembourg Song Contest.
Theo Evan for Cyprus
Theo Evan was announced as Cyprus’ representative shortly after the beginning of this year’s Eurovision season. The first Cypriot-born competitor for Cyprus since 2017, he has spent considerable time in the United States as well, studying at Berklee College of Music and living briefly in California.
Cyprus’ Eurovision journey
Cyprus made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song “Monika” and place 6th. Since then, they have participated 40 times, participating in the Grand Final 33 times.
In 2024, CyBC internally selected Silia Kapsis to represent them in Malmö with the song “Liar”. During her participation in Malmö, Silia qualified for the final, before going on to finish in 15th place with a total of 78 points. The juries gave Cyprus 34 points, whilst the televote awarded Silia 44 points.
