Despite being the 9th act announced for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Louane becomes the last artist to reveal her entry, with “Maman” being presented today.
“Maman” to Basel
It was announced last month that France would be taking an unusual approach to how it would be presenting it’s entry for Basel. In an interview with inter Louane and France Télévisions announced that “Maman” would be presented during the half time of the France-Scotland 6 Nations rugby match.
Who is Louane?
The 28 year old singer has extensive experience with tv music competitions having competed in her first all the way back in 2008. Her stint on L’École des stars was followed up by her participation on the French edition of The Voice in 2013, where she ultimately eliminated in the semi finals. Her Eurovision journey initially began with a series of denials last year, before ultimately being rumoured again and then announced as the French entrant in Basel.
France’s Eurovision Journey
France is a powerhouse in Eurovision, debuting in the first Contest in 1956. Their first entries finished in second place, but no scores were ever published. Since then, France has gone on to win the Contest five times. The most recent win came in 1977, with Marie Myriam’s “L’oiseau et l’enfant”, scoring 136 points.France has seen a rebirth in results following a change in direction in 2016. Amir finished in 6th position for France with “J’ai cherché”, followed by 12th, 13th and 16th places respectively.
For 2024, France continued to choose internally, they chose Slimane with his song “Mon amour”. At the close of voting in Malmö, France finished in 4th place, earning 445 points. Of these, 218 points were given by the juries, whilst the televote allocated an extra 227 points to France.
