Now That’s What I Call… The Extended Eurovision Universe

As Eurovision fans (and some who aren’t) know, Eurovision neither starts nor ends with the main contest. From National Final season introducing the world to new and exciting artists, to former Junior Eurovision artists, to the big- and small-name songwriters and producers that work behind the scenes, people from all over the music industry make Eurovision the amazing thing that it is. Here is some of the best new music by Eurovision-adjacent acts.

elisabeth tiffany  – “tüliõun”

The ever-amazing elisabeth tiffany returns to the round-up with “tüliõun”, which means apple of discord. And yes, they really have one small word for that in Estonian. Speaking of which, this is the rare Estonian-language release from the singer, who sounds just as lovely as she does in English over some electronic production work.

Meelik – “Kahekesi Küünis”

The Eesti rong (Estonian train) keeps going with personal faves Meelik and their new music, which takes shape as single “Kahekesi Küünis” (Two in the Claw). The track is another retro, rocky track with a bit of a summery twist to the sound.

Felicia Lu – “Bittersweet” (LP)

It’s always “Bittersweet” when an album you’ve written a lot about gets released, and this is no different. Felicia Lu’s sophomore album is her first as an independent artist, and sees her explore her range within the indie and alt pop/poprock, with plenty of different sound so there is a great song for you to discover in this 16 track effort.

FRIDA GOLD – “Traurig x Glücklich”

Icons Frida Gold are feeling “Traurig x Glücklich” (Sad x Happy). WHile this song isn’t a take on the excellent song or album by Circa Waves, it does very much talk about and evoke similar feelings of being, well, sad and happy at the same time. The song is the first track of upcoming EP “Morgenrot” (Dawn), which is set to be released in September.

Yoann Casanova – “SLEEPLESS”

We hop across the border to France to listen to Yoann Casanova and his new track “Sleepless”. It feels like a bit of a throwback swaggering altrock crowd pleaser. Sound off in the comments, should Yoann and Sinplus do a tour together?

Rūta MUR – “Jausmas kitoks”

The one and only Rūta MUR is back once again, and “Jausmas kitoks” (The feeling is different) sees the singer explore her sound even further. This new music feels a bit more grounded, direct, and energetic than most of Rūta’s recent work, and takes some more elements from the rockier, earlier side of new wave.

Rita Rocha – “8/80” (LP)

Another recent fave of the round-up released an album this month, with Rita Rocha‘s ‘8/80″ finally seeing the light of day. Upbeat-sounding, pop-rocky pre-release single “saudades tuas.” remains my personal fave, but lovers of more traditional Portuguese sounds or their moire modern variations also have plenty to love on this 9-track LP.

Capital da Bulgária – “Morangos”

Sofia, better known under the punny artist name Capital da Bulgária, branches out from making music themed around capital cities with “Morangos” (Strawberries). The track is sweet, summery, with a slight hint of sourness: just like the perfect strawberry.

THE HARDKISS – “Crush”

Nothing from the KALUSH’es and no other Ukrainian artists so far? Fret not, for THE HARDKISS represent the country plenty this month with banger “Crush”. The song is a great addition to the band’s ever-growing discography that balances electronic rock, progressive pop, and other elements from rock and beyond that sees the band both hearken back to their roots and expand their sound. The track is the first piece of new music from an upcoming album that will be in English and Ukrainian, with the band aiming for a 2026 release date.
