Georgia’s national government has announced it will help cover the cost of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025. According to reports, the government has allocated 8.164 million GEL (approxiamately β¬2.5 million) to host the Contest.
Government to help cover costs of upcoming edition
According to local outlet BPN, the decision was officially made at the beginning of August to award the money to public broadcaster GPB. The government approved the announcement as part of a framework from Georgia’s Ministry of Culture.
In total, 8,164,280 Georgian lari will be given to help foot the bill of the Contest. 8,000,000 of the budget is coming directly from the Ministry of Culture itself, while the remaining 164,280 comes from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
The money will go towards Georgia’s second hosting of the Junior Contest; the first being in 2017. At that time, the competition had a total budget of 6,881,144 GEL – equivalent to β¬2.2 million. The Contest had a a total of 16 competitors, and saw Russia’s Polina Bogusevich win the competition.
The story of Junior Eurovision 2025 so far
Georgia will host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025 after winning the 2024 edition with “To My Mom”. After initial doubts over whether Georgia would host the Contest, Tbilisi was confirmed to be the host city in May. No official list of participants has been publicly released as yet, but at least eighteen countries have submitted interest. Croatia and Montenegro will return to the competition, while Estonia and Germany will withdraw.
