The Winners

Nemo – “God’s a Raver”

“God’s a Raver”, Nemo declares on their new track. The music video version contains an honest to god opening sketch and the bafflement doesn’t stop there. Because did you expect anything vaguely ravey? Well, you’ll be sorely mistaken as Nemo treats us to something very different instead in this preview for their album, which is coming in October. Musically it is a pastiche of pop from the 70s, 90s, and now, leading to a delightful glampop concoction.

KALUSH x BEREZA – “Бульбашки”

Regular service continues as KALUSH are back on their regular release schedule. “Bubbles” is another collab with BEREZA and is a fittingly bubbly track that celebrates live music and clubbing.

Kalush Orchestra х Simbochka – “Чому”, Харфанг featuring Kalush Orchestra – “Фісташки”

Meanwhile in the Kalush Orchestra section we find a new collab with Simbochka. “Чому” is a song about loss and trying to hold on to love in a world that is falling apart, all presented over one of the group’s more haunting and pulled back productions to date.

Kalush followed this up by appearing on a song Харфанг. “Фісташки” (Pistachios) is positively Kalush-esque in how front and centre the beat is, although the more melodic and at times downbeat style of the group still shine through on this track.

Charlotte and Angelo Perrelli – “More Than Words”

Also joining the collab train this month is Charlotte Perrelli. She teams up with her son to cover the song by Extreme, who reached the number 1 spot with this track in multiple countries. Not Sweden though, as it only peaked at #4 there back in 1991.

Raja x Jamala – “ZORYA”

“Zorya” meanwhile sees Jamala team up with Raja for this mix of house, techno, and (of course) Ukrainian folk that is fascinating. The song really just keeps driving forward at what feels like quite the pace, despite each element being relatively calm. Jamala‘s voice also works excellently with this kind of production.
