Now That’s What I Call… The Extended Eurovision Universe
As any Eurovision megafan knows, Eurovision neither starts nor ends with the main contest. From National Final season introducing the world to new and exciting artists, to former Junior Eurovision artists, to the big-name songwriters and producers that work behind the scenes, people from all over the music industry make Eurovision the amazing thing that it is. Here are some of the best new releases by Eurovision-adjacent acts:
Felicia Lu – “Manifest”
Felicia Lu has tried to represent Germany in Eurovision twice but never quite made it there, despite being a bit of a fan favourite. Her new track “Manifest” is another catchy yet slightly moody alt-and-indie influenced pop track. Lyrically, the song is exactly what it says on the tin: Felicia is manifesting everything she desires.
Tseba – “See Your Face” feat. Electric Fields
Electronic music duo Electric Fields lit up Australia Decides 2019 with their amazing “2000 And Whatever”, finishing second behind Kate Miller-Heidke. Their latest release is a feature on a new track by Australian DJ and artist Tseba. This is not the first time they have worked together to create an absolute bop that feels inspired by the best dance music of the mid-00s: collab “Must Be Love” featured on the official soundtrack of FIFA 23.
Barbara Munjas – “Oda mladosti”
Barbara Munjas has competed in Croatia’s DORA twice, but those two pop singles do little to reflect the bredth of her musical career. She has been in a folk band, a rock band, and also has a diverse solo discography which now celebrates the addition of new track “Oda mladosti” (Ode to youth). It’s a classy self-written and composed alt-pop track. Lyrically, the song is a look at the joy and simplicity of youth, the fleeting nature of time, and how memories shape and inspire us.
Edmundo Inácio – “Agora Vira”
Edmundo Inácio made his Festival da Canção this year through the open call and rode his song “A Festa” all the way to a very close second place. Edmundo’s second ever single “Agora Vira” (Now Turn). The song reflects on societal issues, especially touching on economic struggles. As we so often (to my delight) see in Portuguese music, the negative mood of the lyrics is contrasted by some of the most upbeat and catchy music you have ever heard.
Theoz – “Bara lite grann (Sommar igen)”
Speaking of catchy tunes: Kicking off the Melfest section of this round-up is Theoz, who has been astoundingly catchy both times he competed in Melfest, to the point that even this Melfest hater appreciated his efforts. “Bara lite grann (Sommar igen)” (Just a little bit [Summer again]) is no exception. The song is an ode to the summer, with Theoz singing about making the most of it now that it is summer again.
Tribe Friday – “Salt Clouds”
Tribe Friday go a bit more indie with their alt-rock sound on new track “Salt Clouds”. The song will appear on their upcoming album “Hemma,” which is set to be released later this year. On Facebook, lead singer Noah Deutschmann is quoted as saying that “‘Salt Clouds’ is based on a few pages of scribbles I wrote when visiting home last year. I realised I’d placed a lot of blame for me being the way I am in my surroundings, and that I had a lot of built up resentment because of it. That’s what the song is about – pointing fingers at everyone except the one responsible. It’s a letter home, and an imaginary letter back”.
Wiktoria – “Walk Away”
Melfest mainstay Wiktoria has released new track “Walk Away”. It’s another retro-tinged pop track. Lyrically, the song is about Wiktoria telling her partner that they can make it through everything together, and that she promises to never walk away.
Kiana – “Lemonade”

[…] Stop,” TVORCHI declare in their new track. And with how frequently they show up in these round-ups, I am not going to disagree. Jokes aside, this track is a love track about how the singer just […]
[…] Written alongside Mike Mago, Stuck’s lyrics deal with feelings of infatuation, and trying to get someone out of your head who is ‘stuck’ in there. Apt for a song with its name, the song is yet another alt-pop earworm from Mia Nicolai, after she released “Loop” back in June. […]
