Today, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS has revealed that Joost Klein will represent the Netherlands in Malmö next May.
Who is Joost Klein?
Joost Klein has had his eye on Eurovision for months, as he launched a campaign to convince AVROTROS to select him for next year. He is best known for his EDM and techno-style music that has already amassed a huge domestic and international following.
According to broadcaster AVROTROS, the commercial viability of his song was enough to give Joost the right to participate. Chair of the selection committee, Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen said that there would be appeal across multiple generations.
Following a careful and multi-phase process, the selection committee ultimately opted for Joost Klein. There were a lot of entries from a wide range of genres, but in our view his had the most hit potential. In the song, you hear his familiar mix of party and nostalgia.
With his enormous creativity, we think Joost can put on a great show in a totally original way, and that the Netherlands and Europe are in for a positive surprise. We’re really looking forward to working with him.
Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen, chair of the Dutch selection committee
Speaking on his selection, Joost himself said he was thankful to the Dutch selection committee for helping him realise his dreams:
Taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest is a dream come true. I used to watch it together with my parents, glued to the screen, year after year. It’s an honour to represent the Netherlands, and I’m committed to giving my all for the best possible outcome.

Joost is the victor of the biggest selection process for the Netherlands, as AVROTROS received a record more than 600 submissions for Malmö. Joost’s song will be released in due course.
The Netherlands’ Eurovision History
The Netherlands are one of the founding countries of the ESC. They performed the very first song ever on the Eurovision stage back in 1956. While the result of “De Vogels van Holland” is unknown, the Netherlands have clocked 5 wins, with their most recent in 2019. However, the Netherlands are also known to have had the longest-ever non-qualification streak in the semi-final era – they missed out on the final a whopping 8 times between 2005-2012.
The most recent Dutch entry to the Contest was in 2023. Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper represented the nation with “Burning Daylight” – written by Eurovision winner Duncan Laurence. The Netherlands failed to qualify for the final in Liverpool, placing 13th with a total of 7 points from the televote.
