Well, it just turned midnight in Central Europe, and with that, there’s only one thing we have to say
LET THE 2025 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST SEASON BEGIN!!!
Rewinding back to May, Switzerland won the competition in Malmö with Nemo and their entry “The Code”. SRG SSR was quick to work and revealed the Core Team that will be producing next year’s show, with the EBU and SRG SSR announcing on August 30 that Basel will be hosting Eurovision 2025 on May 13, 15 and 17.
With it, we are only about eight months in, until we head to Switzerland for the 69th edition of the competition. Host broadcaster SRG SSR is certainly working hard to ensure we have a great competition. It has been 36 YEARS!!! since Switzerland last hosted the competition in 1989, where Riva won with their entry “Rock Me” in Lausanne.
Who will we see or won’t see in Switzerland?
With the Eurovision 2025 season just starting, some countries have already confirmed that they will be participating in next year’s competition. Some countries have revealed their selection method, and some are yet to reveal this.
- Albania – It is expected that that ‘Festivali i Këngës‘ will be used to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Austria – ORF will be internally selecting their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Azerbaijan – İctimai Television has opened submissions in the search for its Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Belgium – VRT will be using ‘Eurosong’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Cyprus
- Denmark – DR will be using ‘Dansk Melodi Grand Prix’ will be used to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Finland – YLE will be using ‘UMK’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- France – It is yeto to be revealed how France Télévisions will select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Germany – It is yet to be revealed how NRD will select Germany’s Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Israel – It is reported that ‘HaKokhav HaBa’ will be used to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Italy – RAI will be using ‘Festival di Sanremo’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Latvia – LTV will be using ‘Supernova’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Luxembourg – RTL will be using ‘Luxembourg Song Contest’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Malta – The Malta Eurovision Song Contest Music Exchange Camp 2024 took place in June. However, PBS is yet to confirm how it will be selecting their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Montenegro – RTCG will be returning to Eurovision after a two year break and is set to use the selection ‘Montesong‘ to select their representative.
- Norway – NRK will be using ‘Melodi Grand Prix’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Portugal – RTP will be using ‘Festival da Canção’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- San Marino – SMRTV will be using ‘Una Voce Per San Marino’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Serbia – RTS will be using ‘Pesma za Evroviziju’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Spain – RTVE will be using ‘Benidorm Fest’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Sweden – SVT will be using ‘Melodifestivalen’ to select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- Switzerland (Host Country) – SRG SSR will internally select their Eurovision 2025 representative.
- United Kingdom – It is yet to be revealed how the BBC will be selecting their Eurovision 2025 representative.
The following countries have participated previously, but have not publicly confirmed their participation in next year’s competition:
- Armenia
- Australia – Australia was granted the right to participate in the competition until 2023. SBS was granted the right to participate once again in 2024.
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Czechia
- Estonia
- Georgia
- Greece
- Iceland
- Ireland
- Hungary
- Monaco – TVMonaco was lauch on September 2023 and has acquired EBU membership.
- The Netherlands – AVROTROS has revealed that it will decide on participation in September.
- North Macedonia – The country withdrew in 2023 due to the cost of participation.
- Poland
- Romania
- Slovenia
- Türkiye
- Ukraine
The following countries have also confirmed that they will not be participating in next year’s competition.
- Andorra – Despite past Eurovision representatives supporting Andorra’s return, it’s revealed that a return is not currently in the cards.
- Bosnia & Herzegovina
- Belarus – BTRC’s EBU Membership was suspended, with the EBU confirming that this is indefinite, but is subject to continual review.
- Liechtenstein – 1 FLTV has announced that it is no longer aiming to apply for an EBU membership.
- Russia – The EBU has permanently suspended the membership of its Russian members, this is indefinite, and will be reviewed regularly.
- Slovakia – Despite earlier reports of a potential return, its been revealed that the reason for their non-participation is finanical.
Pre-Parties
In addition to the confirmation of the participating countries, some pre-parties have already confirmed their dates for next year’s event.
- Nordic Music Celebration – March 22
- Barcelona Eurovision Party – March 27-29
- Eurovision in Concert – April 5
- Manchester Eurovision Party – April 11-13
- Pre-Party ES – April 17-19
