Other Highlights
There is way too much music released every month to cover in-depth, but here are some of the best and biggest new tracks from other Eurovision artists:
MARO & Pedro Altério – “Sina”, “Carinhoso”, “Agora Só Falta Você”, “Vambora”, “Mulher do Fim do Mundo”, “Já Sei Namorar”, MARO ft. Lumï – “we’ve been loving in silence (trio version)”
Portugal’s MARO released an absolute boatload of new music this months. Unlike last month, where she featured on songs by others, all these have MARO as the lead artist or sharing lead credits. First of all she released a host of songs where she took the lead together with Pedro Altério to cover a number of Portuguese language songs. MARO also teamed up with Dutch duo Lumï, who supported the Portuguese artist during her recent tour, for a cover of MARO’s “we’ve been loving in silence”. For some reason none of these songs seem to be available on Spotify as of writing, FYI.
ZLATA OGNEVICH – “Ой сивая та і зозуленька”
“Ой сивая та і зозуленька” (Oh, the gray-haired one and the cuckoo) is a Ukrainian folk song in a similar New Year’s and Christmas tradition as Ruslana’s on the previous page. Zlata’s rendition is scaled back as far as her regular discography is concerned, with mostly just an acoustic guitar accompanying her throughout.
Jendrik – “The-Never-Ending-Fall” (EP)
It’s another EP from Jendrik this month courtesy of his “The-Never-Ending-Fall” EP. Clearly inspired, at least in title, by the originally German NeverEnding Story (everyone say thank you Michael Ende), this release consists of three tracks of the sweet singer-songwriter style music we’ve come to expect of Jendrik.
Chris Harms – “I Love You”
Chris Harms fame was involved in three songs this month. While “Out of Breath” by Savage Lands featuring Lord of the Lost and “In Venom” by Diamond Black featuring “just” Chris are good songs checking out if you like Lord of the Lost, the third song is the one I want to highlight. “I Love You” feels extremely “West Germany in the 80s”, and is an excellent piece of modern new wave.
Amaia – “Tengo Un Pensamiento”
I like Amaia’s recent output a lot, but even I am surprised by the massive success of “Tengo Un Pensamiento” (I Have A Thought). The song, which comes out ahead of her upcoming album “SI ABRO LOS OJOS NO ES REAL” (IF I OPEN MY EYES IT’S NOT REAL). The song has quickly reached over 2 million listens on Spotify. This dreamy pop song feels very understated, but Amaia sounds lovely on it.
Cleo, Bonson, Don – “LICHO”, Cleo, Don “MOJE MIEJSCE”
Looking for some cunty Central or Eastern European music? Cleo and Don(atan) have you coverd with “LICHO” and “MOJE MIEJSCE” (MY PLACE). Both songs combine traditional elements with modern electronic genres to create a mix that is worth checking out.
Mihai Trăistariu & Cristian Harhătă – “Eu beau necazul meu”
This month’s new music from the Balkans (okay just outside of it this time but shush) belongs to Mihai Trăistariu & Cristian Harhătă. “Eu beau necazul meu” (I drink my trouble) is a fun, danceable song that feels ready for a wedding or something like that.
Kati Wolf – “Szívcsend”
“Szívcsend” (Silence of the heart) is the title of the new acoustic guitar ballad by Kati Wolf. It is a very pretty song, which immediately feels like a singer-songwriter classic.
NAVIBAND – “НАДЗЕЯ”
We close of the Eurovision alum section with “НАДЗЕЯ” (HOPE) by NAVIBAND. My ESC250 votegetters offer up a beautiful, uplifting song perfect for these cold days (if you are in the Northern hemisphere).
