NRK has confirmed that Norway will not be participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025.
Why Norway wonβt compete in JESC this year
NRK stated clearly that without an established selection show or national final, there is no feasible way to select a Norwegian JESC entry for 2025.
Although NRK has ruled out participation in 2025, the broadcaster has not entirely closed the door on a return in 2026. Discussions with organisers suggest that reintroducing MGPjr or another selection format might pave the way for a potential comeback next year, provided that the format returns and aligns with NRKβs programming plans. NRK used to organise MGPjr every year, until the show was cancelled in 2022.
Norway’s Junior Eurovision journey
Norway first took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the first edition of the Contest in 2003. Represented by 2U singing “Sinnsykt gal forelsket” in Copenhagen, Norway, finished in 13th place in a field of 16, with 18 points.
Norway has since participated a further two times, with their most recent participation taking place in 2005. In Hasselt, Norway was represented by Malin Reitan and her song “Sommer og skolefri”, finishing in 3rd place with 123 points. However, since then, Norway has withdrawn from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, citing pressure on young performers.
