The 2024 Entries
alyona alyona – “Тато”
alyona alyona follows up last month’s collab with Jerry Heil by releasing new single “Тато” (Dad). In an interview with broadcaster 1+1 alyona alyona dedicated the song to her dad. She went on to say that she hopes this song encourages fathers and daughters to talk with each other about emotions and love. Musically, the song is an uplifting pop track with a nice amount of alyona alyona’s usual rap flair.
Baby Lasagna – “and I”
Throwing a bit of a musical curveball this month is Baby Lasagna with his new song “and I”. This cute little song travels through a few different sugary sweet eras of pop as Baby Lasagna sings about his superstar, his very own baby lasagna.
ISAAK – “Never the Same”
Germany’s representative at Eurovision this year sings about how things will never be the same on “Never the Same”, a song title which robs me of the opportunity to neatly include it in this sentence. Musically, it is much of the same for Isaak, who starts out on guitar before being accompanied by a range of instrumentation, with “wah-ohs” and more.
Silvester Belt – “Luktelk (Remixes)” (EP)
Silvester Belt honours that unique feeling where time both speeds up and slows down during the summer with “Luktelk (Sped Up)” and “Luktelk (Slowed Down)”. The two new versions are respectively 20 seconds shorter and longer than the original track. God, I miss the days where people could and would just do this manually with their vinyl player.
Windows95man – “NO RULES! MEGAMIX” (EP)
Speaking of remix EPs, Windows95Man offers up 5 different versions of his Eurovision entry “No Rules!”. Belgian DJ and producer Jonas Steur provides a regular and an extended Happy Hardcore remix, while fellow Finn Kirna made a Rave remix. The original team behind the song made a “Spa Mix”, which is a new age, downtempo take on the track reminiscent of 90s acts such as Enigma. Finally, a “Classical Version” was made together with Espoo’s Tapiola Sinfonietta orchestra, which gives the song an orchestral flair that personally reminds me of something like the Indiana Jones score.
Ladaniva – “Ladaniva (Postcards)” (LP)
It’s not just new music but an entire debut album for Armenia’s Ladaniva this month. You can read more about the great collection of songs called “Ladaniva (Postcards)”, which includes Eurovision entry “Jako” and last month’s “Here’s to you Ararat” in this article:

Slimane – “Résister (What about Peace?)”
Asking questions and releasing new music this month is France’s Slimane. Read up on his new song “Résister (what about peace?)” here:
Joost Klein – “Luchtballon”, “The Bird Song”, “Fußball (World Cup 1998)”
The Netherlands’ Joost Klein has been flying high at Pinkpop and other events, thanks in part to new single “Luchtballon”. Find out more in the first article below. At the end of the month Joost treated us to more new music, which included the other song he sent to AVROTROS (“The Bird Song”), and a double throwback by including a B-side that itself is also retro (“Fußball (World Cup 1998)”). You can read more about those in the second linked article.
