Other Highlights

There is way too much music released every month to cover in-depth, but here are some of the best and biggest new tracks from other Eurovision artists:

This month slightly condensed due to all the other stuff, and because frankly these month a lot of artists that released music kind of dropped the ball in quality if you ask me.

Filmaften – “Hey Katrine”

Britpop coded Danish 4 piece Filmaften never competed in Eurovision, but band member Laurits Emanuel did as part of Fyr og Flamme. This is a nice little piece of britpoppy adult contemporary that feels like it is destined to land on many a playlist. Or it would be, if it was on spotify and other streaming services but sadly this isn’t available elsewhere!

Montaigne – “it’s all about the money”

The Montaigne release schedule continues as the artist this month released new music in the form of “it’s all about the money”. There is a deep frustration clearly present throughout the song and its lyrics, and it is a bit of a takedown as Montaigne wrote on Instagram. Montaigne’s upcoming album, “it’s hard to be a fish” will be their first fully independent effort and is set to be released June 19th.

Sinplus – “Crossfire”

Also busy are Swiss outfit Sinplus. “Crossfire” leaves behind the electronic elements from last month and instead opts for a full return to the swaggering rock sound that I have come to love them for.

Voyager – “Seen Better Days”

Australian band Voyager may have “Seen Better Days”, but their new music proves they still know how to rock after a 18 month hiatus. A surprisingly slow and contemplative start gives way to the classic wall of sound Voyager instrumentation, which still sounds as impactful and amazing as ever. The song deals with the forced hiatus and what singer Danny went through while getting treated for cancer.

Mariana Nolasco, MARO – “do raso ao fundo”

I might be wrong but I thought MARO said something about slowing down a bit after releasing truly astonishing amounts of music over the last *waves hands because what even is time*. But here she is together with Mariana Nolasco on the song “do raso ao fundo” (from shallow to deep). As one might expect, this is a lovely calm song powered mostly by warm vocals and an acoustic guitar supported by other production elements. That being said, Mariana Nolasco’s does bring something out of MARO, which makes this song feel a bit colder and more melancholic-in-a-lonely way than most MARO projects.

MARO ft. Charlotte Cardin & November Ultra – “As It Was”

And she wasn’t even done there, as MARO also released a cover of Harry Styles’ “As It Was”, which she recorded back in December during her trio tour, accompanied by Charlotte Cardin and November Ultra. It makes Daniel, who is inexplicably writing this part, very nostalgic for the tour. Lovely stuff.
