Prior to the 2024 Eurovision Grand Final, the Marcel Bezençon awards were awarded to this years Eurovision participants.
The award winners
The presentation took place in a ceremony prior to the Grand Final on Saturday night, and the winners were as follows:
- The Press Award – Croatia’s “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” by Baby Lasagna
- The Artistic Award – Switzerland’s “The Code” by Nemo (Stage direction by Fredrik Rydman)
- The Composer Award – Switzerland’s “The Code” by Nemo (Written by Benjamin Alasu, Lasse Midtsian Nymann, Linda Dale and Nemo Mettler)
The awards were handed out by the Contest Producer of Eurovision 2024, Christer Björkman.
What are the Marcel Bezençon awards?
Named after the creator of the Eurovision Song Contest, the Marcel Bezençon awards are presented each year since 2002. They are given out to the participants in the contest. While sanctioned by the EBU, they are not presented as part of the show, but instead are presented prior to the Grand Final. The awards come in three categories:
- The Press Award – voted on by accredited media & press for their favourite entry.
- The Artistic Award – voted on by the commentators from each broadcaster, for the most artistic entry.
- The Composer Award – voted on by the participating composers from the years contest, for the best composition.
By country, Sweden has won the most awards since the commencement of the awards in 2002, with 9 awards in total (1 press, 5 artistic, 3 composer).
About Eurovision 2024
The Nordic country hosted the 68th edition of the competition in May 2024, after Loreen’s historic win at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. One month after the 2023 contest took place, SVT revealed the first names of the Core Team that will work on the competition. SVT completed the team in September.
In July 2023, after a shortlist of four cities, the EBU announced that Malmö would host Eurovision 2024. The city spent up to €2.5 million for the contest. Additionally, they had 600 volunteers working for the show.
In the contest, 37 countries participated. Luxembourg returned and Romania withdrew. ‘United By Music’ was announced as the permanent slogan for the contest. ‘The Eurovision Lights’ was revealed as the theme art. Florian Wieder and Fredrik Stormby designed the stage, revealed in December. The Netherlands did not participate in the Grand Final, due to an incident with the artist.
