Eurovision 2024 host broadcaster SVT has just revealed the official stage design of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, which is due to take place in Malmö.

Florian Wieder and Fredrik Stormby are behind the concept

The stage comes with movable LED cubes, LED floors, light, video and stage technology, to provide some visuals, with a cross shaped stage in the middle to provide ‘a unique 360-degree experience that the audience and viewers will get to experience in May’

Florian Wieder, Production Designer, who is known to Eurovision fans for designing numerous stages for the contest and Fredrik Stormby, Light and Screen Content Designer were the ones who came up with the concept.

Speaking about the stage design, Ebba Adielsson, the Executive Producer of Eurovision 2024 comments:

‘It is with great pride that we present our vision of the stage and lighting design for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. We have not seen anything like this before at Eurovision and the concept gives us endless opportunities to create unique spaces and expressions for both the competing artists and the opening and interval acts. Florian and Fredrik’s creation is simply fantastic and it will be so much fun to see the end result!’

Meanwhile Florian Wiedder adds:

‘I am so happy to be part of the Eurovision family again! Putting together an exceptional show is a team effort and I’m proud to be part of a dream team of professionals – just the right constellation of people to come up with something different and new. We all have the same vision of what this show should be and how to take Eurovision to the next level, and for me Sweden is always a guarantor of good music and entertainment.’

Whilst Fredrik Stromby comments:

We believe that together we have created what is an unexpected and updated concept for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 and are looking forward to showing it off for real! I am honoured to have been commissioned to design the light and video in collaboration with the team from our studio, and the production team that SVT has put into place for the project.

We’ve developed a strong concept together, and I’m really looking forward to the continued collaboration in production, the creative process with the delegations, and eventually getting my teeth into the show and doing the broadcasts!

The Journey to Eurovision 2024

The Nordic country will be hosting the 68th edition of the competition following Loreen’s historic win at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. One month after the 2023 contest taking place SVT revealed the first names of the Core Team that will be working on the competition, with the team completed in September.

In July 2023, after a shortlist of four cities, it was announced that Malmö will host Eurovision 2024, with the city spending up to €2.5 Million for the contest, as well as having 600 volunteers working for the show.

As for the upcoming contest, there will be 37 countries participating. Luxembourg will be returning, whilst Romania’s participation is still uncertain. ‘United By Music’ has been announced as the permanent slogan for the contest, with the upcoming contest having ‘The Eurovision Lights’ as the theme art, with the stage, which is undertaken by Florian Wieder and Fredrik Stormby who are behind the concept, was revealed in December.
