So that was a month huh? A lot happened in Basel and outside of it, and whether you enjoyed Eurovision or had a less amazing time, you likely are sitting at home thinking “and now what?” Well, how about listening to one of the myriads of tracks that came out this month? Once again I handpicked the best and biggest releases of the month for your ears to enjoy. This month’s round-up includes: many duets, long-awaited (or feared) albums, and multiple people from my home province with new music!
If you want to jump straight to a specific section, here’s a list of pages, each filled to the brim with new music:
- The 2025 entries – EP of the month is here
- The Winners
- The 2024 entries
- Other Highlights – Album of the month is here
- Now That’s What I Call… The Extended Eurovision Universe (artists from NFs, JESC, intervals, and more) – Song of the month is here
The 2025 entries
Shkodra Elektronike – “shndrit!” (EP)
We start with what might have been the biggest release of the month in my circles: the “shndrit!” EP by Shkodra Elektronike! “Zjerm” and a really nice remix of the song by Italian producer Clap! Clap! bookend this 5 track EP. So how about those other songs? “Askund” is a bouncy, clubby, yet also terrifically moody track. “Deri n’fund” slowly builds and sees the duo dabble a bit more with elements and stylistic choices from what might have been called world music a few decades ago. Finally, “E Lirë” is an 8 minute epic that starts with chanting before giving way to heavier and heavier electronic beats overtaking the entire soundscape. Definitely best listened loud and on some good audio equipment! This, of course, is the EP of the month!
Ziferblat – “Of Us”
Ukrainian soft-rockers Ziferblat soared on the Eurovision stage with “Bird of Pray”, but this month they also took the time to sing “Of Us”. More kuschelrock than their Eurovision entry, fans of Daniil’s vocals and the general sound of the band should still love this.
Katarsis – “Balta Meilė”
Some, but not all, Eurovision “A Little Bit More”s make it to official streaming services. Katarsis’ cover of “Balta Meilė” is one of those, and how happy it makes me. The original song is by legendary Lithuanian band Lemon Joy, and Katarsis do some absolutely amazing work transforming it into their trademark style. What can I say, I just love their sound. It’s also fun to compare this cover to another Lemon Joy cover that made it to the round-up last year, Rūta MUR’s take on their track “Mylėt tave taip beprotiška ir keista”.
Klemen – “The Northern Lights”, “Out of My Cage”
It’s a twofer from Klemen in the month he finally appeared at Eurovision. “The Northern Lights” is a pleasant midtempo uplifting pop track, while “Out of My Cage” takes a laid-back approach with Klemen mostly just accompanied by a guitar, leading to a bit of a 00s coffeeshop playlist sound.
Gabry Ponte, Train – “Brokenhearted”
This is the second month in a row that Train appear in the round-up, although this time it isn’t because they’re being covered! “Brokenhearted” sees the group appear properly thanks to working with Gabry Ponte. It feels like a summer banger from a few years back but I honestly can see a lot of people enjoying this.
Klavdia – “ASTEROMATA” (LP)
It’s an 8 track LP from Greece’s Klavdia as she celebrates her Eurovision result. The album includes the original and a remix version of Eurovision entry and title track “Asteromata”, previously released tracks such as “Lonely Heart”, and new material. And yes, that means that Klavdia sings in Greek and English on this album, which sees her go very poppy at times.
Princ – “Mila” (LP)
Also releasing an album named after his Eurovision entry this month was Serbia’s Princ. “Mila” counts 12 tracks, including three version of the title track (Original, Acoustic, and Instrumental). Old and new music awaits, including the surprisingly groovy “Samo mi je lepo”.
Theo Evan – “Don’t kill my summer”
Theo Evan has had enough of being all hush hush and now is asking you to not kill his summer on this new break-up track. This song is extremely not for me but if you think it might be something up your alley, do check it out.
VÆB – “DR. SAXOPHONE”
I am disappointed, VÆB. “DR. SAXOPHONE” has basically no saxophone on it or even anything that really sounds all that much like one! Fans of the chaotic Icelandic duo should enjoy this quite a bit however.
Melody – “El Apagón”
There also was new music this month from Melody, who sings about “El Apagón” (The Blackout). Perhaps inspired by but I assume unrelated to the big actual blackout that affected Spain and Portugal recently, this song is a resilience anthem for the singer who was deeply affected by not getting the hoped for result at the contest.
EMMY – “Legends”, “Laika Party (Acoustic Version)”
We start with the song that Emmy closed out the month with, “Legends” is a celebration of all her fans. And, loathe as I am to acknowledge Spotify-exclusive content, it is worth experiencing the song there as the video there shows the faces of multiple fans of EMMY including our very own Lewis!
And now we dive into the lazy section acoustic and remix section of the 2025 artists. Here is another ALBM that made it to streaming services. Yup, it’s the acoustic version of “Laika Party”. I’ll give it this, going for piano instead of acoustic guitar is an often forgotten move for these versions.
ADONXS – “Acoustic Sessions” (EP)
ADONXS released 4 tracks on his “Acoustic Sessions” EP, which includes “Kiss Kiss Goodbye” (as seen at MESC, for reasons I still don’t understand) and three covers: “My My My!” originally by Troye Sivan, and Eurovisio hits “Doomsday Blue” and “Horehronie”.
Laura Thorn – “La poupée monte le son – Poupée Électrique”
Taking the rare chance to go for a non-acoustic version is Laura Thorn. She went for a dark-pop version of her Eurovision entry for A Little Bit More, and 2 months after that originally saw the light it now also is out on all streaming services.
Abor & Tynna – “Bittersüß (Baller Deluxe)” (LP)
With the album coming out a few months ago, Abor & Tynna capitalised on their Eurovision appearance by releasing a “Baller Deluxe” version of “Bittersüß”. The difference? A slightly different song order and a whole host of versions of Baller, including the iconic acoustic Hungarian version.
Go-Jo – “Milkshake Man – Jolyon Petch Remix”
A longer and a shorter version of the same remix are on the menu for Go-Jo fans, as “Milkshake Man” gets the Jolyon Petch treatment.
Kyle Alessandro – “Lighter” (Matoma Remix)
“Lighter” by Kyle Alessandro got a pretty extensive rework courtesy of Matoma.
Remember Monday – “What The Hell Just Happened?” Marcus Wiles Remix, Warren Meyers Remix
Opting for two different remixes this month are Remember Monday, with Marcus Wiles turning it into something very Love Island interstitial while Warren Meyers goes a bit more retro with it in a way that I greatly appreciate.
Napa and Van Zee – “Infinito”
Madeiran favourites Napa worked with their fellow islander Van Zee for joint new song “Infinito”. You can read more about the collab and listen to the song here:
Tautumeitas – “Zem Saules / Under The Solar Spell” (LP), Tautumeitas and Vesna – “She Dances With The Sun”
It’s been a busy month for the Latvian queens of Tautumeitas. They released both an LP and a collab with former Czech Eurovision representatives Vesna! You can read more about that collab and the album in the two articles linked below. Oh, and that album got close to being the LP of the month but barely got edged out by another Latvian group a few pages along in this article…
